We'll start today's selection of trailers with a new promo video for the long-awaited Japanese action movie "Rebirth" (Re:Born) by a creative duo consisting of director Yuji Shimomura and actor Taka Sakaguchi.
Well, "Rebirth" has truly become one of the most anticipated long-term action projects along with such projects as "Boyka: Undeniable" и "Mrs. Kay". Moreover, Shimomura's film won third place in the category "The most anticipated film of 2017" as part of summing up the results of action cinema for 2016, passing on our website.
Interest in the film is fueled by positive reviews from critics and viewers who visited Re:Born at various film festivals. In general, the film has been “touring” festivals for quite a long time, starting with fantastic fest in August last year.
We have already wrote a lot about this interesting project, the driving part of which is not only Sakaguchi and Shimomura, but also a military instructor Yoshitaka Inagawa. In addition to Tak, the film featured: Mariko Shinoda (“Terroforming”), Hitomi Hasebe ("The Legend of the Seven Monks"), Issei Ishida ("Armor: Samurai Zombie"), Takumi Saito ("Ups and Downs: Red Rain"), Masaya Kato (“Drive”) and others.
The official theatrical release of "Rebirth" in Japan is scheduled for 12 August 2017 year. The company will handle the distribution in the USA XYZ Films, however, nothing has yet been heard about the dates of the Western premiere. But a new trailer for the action movie has been released. The trailer for the next Japanese film takes us to the Sengoku era, where the film takes place "Shinobi Country" (Mumon: The Land Of Steath) directed by Yoshihiro Nakamura (“Sir, where is my interest?”, “The Case of the Murder of Snow White”).
Film synopsis: Mumon is a skilled but very lazy ninja from the Iga clan. Having once agreed to eliminate a ninja from the Koga clan for a reward, Mumon accidentally provokes a war between the clans.
We have already mentioned about this project, where the main role went to an aspiring Japanese actor Satoshi Ono (“Life is complicated”). In terms of genre, the film belongs to a trend that is again gaining popularity called “ninja action” or “samurai action”.
In addition to Satoshi Ono, the film featured: Satomi Ishihara ("Godzilla: Rebirth") Yusuke Iseya ("Vagabond Kenshin: The Great Fire of Kyoto", "Vagabond Kenshin: The Last Legend"), Ryohei Suzuki (“Higanjima Deluxe”), Japanese cinema legend Jun Kunimura (“Hard Boiled,” the “Kill Bill” duology) and other actors.
The film premiered at the Toronto Japanese Film Festival 27 June 2017 yearAnd already July 1 “Land of Shinobi” went to theaters in the Land of the Rising Sun. The film is scheduled to open in North America in early September.
Let's finish today's selection with a trailer for the next film from a successful Japanese franchise "Ups and downs", which already includes two seasons of the TV series, continued in the form feature film and one spin-off called "Red Rain".
Now the saga about the showdown of youth gangs in Tokyo of the near future has been replenished with another full-length film - "Ups and Downs: The End of Heaven" (HIGH & LOW: The Movie 2 - End Of Sky), which was directed by two filmmakers at once: Shigeaki Kubo и Tsuyoshi Nakakuki. The first served as director of both the series and the first film of the franchise, and the second was directly involved in the series since 2015.
There is already an official synopsis of the film: after the gang led by Kohaku was defeated, calm reigned in the territory of SWORD. Which, however, did not last long. Very soon, new brutal gangs appeared: Doubt, led by Ranmaru Hayashi, and Prison Gang, led by Zeshi. The day is not far off when a new battle for power will unfold.
A distinctive feature of this youth franchise was not only the presence of hand-to-hand combat (which is of direct interest to us), but also the participation of Japanese pop stars in the series and films. Returning to their roles: Takanori Iwata, Nobuyuki Suzuki, Keita Machida, Taichi Saotome and other pop stars, of which there are quite a lot in the franchise. However, a classic of Japanese cinema joined the ensemble cast Masaya Kato (“The Crying Killer”, “Drive”, “Incident in Shinjuku”), who should play one of the central roles in the new film.

Somehow, the more I wait for this “Re:born”, the less I expect.
I recently watched the film Deadly Warrior (aka The White Tiger) with Mullins, Wilson and Rothrock. I didn’t have any hopes for the film (because I can’t stand Wilson). But I unexpectedly liked the film. Dynamic, good fights. I liked the latest films by Adkins and Van Damme more. Matt Mullins looks much more interesting than Adkins or Jay White. It's a shame he's only doing stunt work now.
