The King of Fighters: new game, animated series and film

After the company in 2015 SNK Playmore acquired by a Chinese investor Ledo Millennium, the new owners of the famous gaming studio are determined to develop top gaming titles. It's not surprising that the legendary fighting game franchise was the first to be targeted."The King of Fighters".

Apart from another video game"The King of Fighters XIV", the release of which is scheduled for the end of 2016, fans of the series can expect an anime series and a television feature film based on the fighting game. This was stated by the founder of the Chinese subordinate studio 37Games Li Yi Fei, who believes that the new approach will again draw attention to the already forgotten franchise.

And if everything is more or less clear with the game and with the animated series, then nothing is clear with the film: will the Japanese, Chinese, or will it be a joint production? New anime by The King of Fighters will be broadcast in Japan, South Korea and several other regions of South Asia later this year. The feature film is planned for late 2016, early 2017.

Let us remind you that the film adaptation of the fighting game “King of Fighters"already came out in 2010 for directing Gordon Chan. The leading roles appeared Maggie Q, Hiro Kanagawa and Ray Park. However, the film failed at the box office, and fans of the game did not accept it either. Therefore, fans reacted with suspicion to the news about the new film adaptation.

Which actors would the readers of the site like to see in the roles of the characters?

I would like to see films based on Tekken and Mortal Kombat made in the future.

      Ismail,

Shoot it yourself. Look, the Yakuts have already filmed. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDN4i1OSQ9E)

      Ismail,

Alas, the studio bosses are not interested in this yet :(

To me, the plot of KOF was never a thrill in itself - a shkolota, a gay and a giant judoka (no complaints about him) extinguished all the titled fighters of the SNK. Then the plot from the American one (the heroes confront an arms dealer who looks like Matthias Hughes with a mustache) went the Japanese way (the confrontation between ancient clans and forgotten spirits).

The best in the series was KF99.

As for the actors: For Mai Shiranui, definitely take Alexandra Daddario, made up as an American-Japanese woman. The fans will forgive you. King - Cynthia Rothrock.
Kyo Kusanagi and Yori are thrown out of the plot.
Kamui Gackt on K - they actually ripped it off from him.
    Rugal - Matthias Hughes.
Leona - Gina Carano (but for this Gina will have to lose weight). Ralph - John Haymes Newton, Clark - Jerry Trimble.
Kane Kosugi or Rain - Eiji Kisaragi
Rio Sakazaki - Scott Adkins, Robert Garcia - Lorenzo Lamas (albeit a bit old) or Marco Zaror
Gary Daniels would make a great Terry Bogard, but Gary is too old for the role. He could also handle Billy Kane. Joe Higashi is, of course, Tony Jaa.
    Kasumi Todo - Cheki Kuriyama.
Krizalid - Masaya Kato (the basis of the character was ripped off from him) or Takeshi Kaneshiro.

But, of course, this will never happen.

      uranium,

The plot of KoF is quite good, but in certain arcs. For example, the story of the Orochi is very interesting and adaptable to film; I don’t know what part of the body was used to write the script for the movie with Maggie Q. Moreover, the Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting branches themselves are quite good. And Mr. Kay’s personal story could be filmed separately - it would turn out to be quite a fantastic action movie. But alas, film makers don’t believe that simple adaptations of fighting games can do anything :(

By the way, Maggie Q looked good in the role of May. Dress her up in an original costume, and the role would have burned out like a charm.

        DIV,

Well, I don’t like Kyo Kusanagi, nothing can be done. A schoolboy with a spark at a tough tournament? This can still be forgiven for Tekken, where the bully graduate Jin Kazama was. How did Kyo defeat veterans Rio Sakazaki and Terry Bogard (not yet old) by that time? No, the Japanese shkololo plot is not my thing. The Orochi arc is a blast, but it needs to be split into 3 parts.

Although, why am I blabbering, they will still make a bodyagu. Like with the MK series (new).

          uranium,

The film will still be made, but sometimes it’s useful to dream up.

PS. Kyo did not defeat the old men of the tournament for nothing, the blood of Orochi flows in his veins, especially since he used artifacts. Kusanagi is certainly a cheater, but he was able to evolve into a very interesting character. And his sworn friend Yorick is generally a great character. And who would play him is a big question :)

            DIV,

All the same, I’m not a supporter of, as they say in Lurkomorye, a “positive hero of the wretched” type OYASH and all that. Kyo needs a more powerful image, like Liu Kang or Kung Lao. And Yori is the opposite of the stereotypical Japanese “red-haired schizoid rival,” but the character worked out.

But I agree about evolution. Throughout the entire KOF, only he and Robert Garcia had noticeable increases in the characters. Rio Sakazaki “grows” only outside the series (in Mr. Karate 2), as does Terry Bogard (only in 2003 he appeared as Lone Wolf) - I don’t count spinoffs like Maximum Impact. This, by the way, is the main problem of the series - in ten years neither Yuri nor Asamiya have grown up, and Mai has not grown from a dull, preoccupied kunoichi into a juicy 30-year-old woman.
