Review of the film Just Call Me Nobody

Despite the fact that the film featured actors from various Asian countries (Zhao Benshan - from the mainland, Kelly Lin, Bunny Chen, Kelly Chu – from Taiwan, Eric Tsang и Norman Tsui – from Hong Kong, and Mark Lee was the only one from Singapore), in the action comedy “Call me nobody” (Just Call Me Nobody) is essentially betting on a popular Chinese comedian Xiao Shenyang – and this is precisely the problem. His unique “nerdy” style got him into the movie Zhang Yimou “Woman, gun and noodles” (Woman, a Gun and a Noodle Shop), but then the key to success was a strong cast, as well as a high-quality script and direction. However, here are all the screen flaws Xiao Shenyang are on display. The culprit for this is how hastily written Ning Caishen script (Kung Fu Hip Hop, Color Me Love), and the usual lack of at least some directorial concentration from the experienced Taiwanese Kevin Chu (Chu Yen Ping), who directed “Basketball in Kung Fu style” (Kung Fu Dunk).

У Xiao Shenyang, as a martial arts aficionado who falls in love with a runaway swordsman princess, doesn't have enough screen time to “Call me nobody” It turned out to be a full-fledged action comedy. As a result, the film quickly devolves into a series of stilted comic sequences that are not actually funny.

Experienced Comedian Zhao, former teacher Xiao Shenyang and co-producer of the film, is clearly “out of his element” here and makes a weak impression. On the other hand, if we take acting, then Tsang, and his Taiwanese partner Woo – both went “all in”, playing as if they were starring in a foreign New Year’s comedy. But an experienced actress of the 70s Kelly Chu in the cameo role of a crazy poisoner, she showed herself a little better. Lee, one of the funniest Singaporean actors (especially in comedies Jack Neo), found himself literally “overboard”, starring only in a short two-minute episode. Stuck somewhere in between complacency Xiao Shenyang and the implausible performances of other actors, Tench attracts with his natural charm, but plays a minor role. "Treasure hunter" (The Treasure Hungter), previous film Chu, was not a comedy as such, but there were more funny moments there, even the fights there were more inventive than in “Call me nobody”.
