Donnie Yen to star in Sleeping Dogs adaptation

The company is developing the project Original Film, based Neil Moritz (Fast and Furious franchise).

Game Sleeping Dogs came out in 2012. In the early stages of production it belonged to Activision Blizzard and was one of the parts of the action franchise True Crime, built on the “open world” principle. Subsequently, the rights to publish the game were purchased by Square Enix and gave it a new name. It is noteworthy that one of the main characters in Sleeping Dogs was voiced by Oscar winner Emma Stone.

The main character is undercover cop Wei Shen, who returned from San Francisco to Hong Kong. He needs to infiltrate the largest criminal group in the city of Soon-on-yi. To do this, he contacts his childhood friend Jackie Ma, who introduces him to the criminal world. Gradually, major mafia bosses notice Wei Shen, and he begins to move up the career ladder - from a simple militant to the right hand of the leader of one of the gangs.

Donnie Yen will play the main role in the film adaptation.

Moritz, Dmitry Johnson и Dan Jevons will produce the project. Toby Archer и Stefan Bugay will serve as executive producers.

I played through the game three times. It's a shame that developers United Front Games were disbanded after the unpopular multiplayer game Triad Wars failed to gain widespread popularity. Hope for a Sleeping Dogs sequel has all but vanished. Maybe just a film based on it, if it is successful, will be able to return the public’s interest and Square Enix will decide to give some talented studio a chance.
About the film. There was an excellent short film by Clinton Jones and the EMC Monkeys stunt team promoting the game back in the day. If the whole film is at the same level of action as in the short film, then we can even close our eyes to the fact that Donnie Yen is too old for the role of Wei Shen.

It's a good news! At least they'll make an urban action movie with Donny! In the style of "Flash" or "Special Person".
Slipping Dogs as a game is also of high quality, but only for fans of Asian crime flavor))) Many Asian actors from the USA and China took part in the dubbing of the game - Will Yun Lee, Edison Chen, Robin Shu, Kelly Hu, James Hong, Lucy Liu, Tzi Ma, etc.
On Xbox live, this game was even given away for free under the "Games with gold" program in the Xbox 360 and Xbox one versions.

There are so many interesting things you can come up with. The material is perfect for Ian. I hope the Americans will lead the project.

      Lindolion,

By the way, I wonder who will run the project. After all, the Japanese have all the rights.

        Danil Chupakhin,

The main thing is that they are not Japanese =). If only Gareth Evans had been allowed to film....
