Review of the film "Special ID" (Special ID, 2013) by NapoleonDinamitte

It's good to talk about "A special person" to Russian chanson. Hong Kong is the same old ataman whom the Chinese commissar took out with a saber, the ataman fell from his horse. Thieves' scoundrel, today the gang is going to play mahjong, the bet is the lives of Chen Zelong's guilty minions. He is played by Donnie Yen and here he reaches the apogee of steepness. It’s hard to look at him calmly from the first episode: such a stylish bandit sits in a T-shirt and jeans, covered in tattoos from neck to toe, a cigarette in his mouth, his arms puffy with muscles holding dice, the tired gaze of a confident man is directed into nowhere.

Can a gambling game in which the opponents are the positive bully Donnie and the crafty bone crusher end well? Ken Lo? Of course not, and now they are already kneading - they are kneading like street kids savvy in martial arts. Donny is cunning, does chaotic nonsense and surprises the enemy with unexpected decisions, and this is the only way to win in a real boy’s fight. Bandit, well, bandit... But no, he cheated you! He's not a crook, but a decent undercover cop. When his mission is completed, he will become an ordinary opera, remove all his tattoos and start playing by the rules.

Adjusted to mainland censorship - a lover of Hong Kong old school will say. Yes, I will answer, and yet I believe Chen Zelong and his good intentions. Those who honestly served in the authorities or worked in private security will understand what we are talking about. Since childhood, our infiltration agent has been sidelined by all these temptations of a criminal life, he himself comes from a thieves’ environment, and his mother is clearly a wealthy one, but something else sticks out to him - when you pursue evil, when you catch a bad guy and severely punish him. Then you go into the sunset with the sweet thoughts that you’re not just smoking the sky, but you’re doing something useful in this crazy world. If I came across you, it means you are not on the same path with me...

As a rule, the hero is much cooler than the faded villain, and sometimes the creators think that if they came up with a terrible villain, then they can forget about the hero’s personality, make him an empty function, but in "Special Person" old Donny and Andy He are worth each other. At some point, the viewer may believe that Donnie is a real bandit, but then the demonic authority of Andy gets into the same frame with him and everything falls into place.

A great episode of their still friendly confrontation in a cafe, when the young and dangerous Andy tries, just in case, to put his older comrade Donnie in his place, but he still doesn’t, and then the Kents go out for spontaneous sparring, in which, as we know, there is only a share sparring... This is also a bit of a buddy movie, since the Hong Kong cop was given a cute little letter-eater as his partner Jing Tian. Her youthful maximalism and girlish stubbornness charmingly come into conflict with Donnie’s free soul. Good and Colin Chow, - this is not a barber for you, but rather the most feminine hairdresser and part-time boss of the triad: a cruel, but very lazy person who is losing power under the pressure of the new generation.

Need I say that the film has perfect action? Each combat episode is a pearl, but could it be otherwise if they shamanized the staging of the fights? John Salvitti и Kenji Tanigaki, and did car stunts Bruce Law? Final fight Donnie Yen и Andy She - the best movie fight I've ever seen. Because there the combat knowledge of the characters is combined not only with a dramatic justification for mutual rage, but also with real uncontrollable fuss, mistakes and misfires of the fighters.

Hope to stretch the torn thread to the horizon and try to change... at least something.
