At least a Thai director Hanging Sasanatieng and said that he was stopping work at the studio, this does not mean that he has decided to leave the film industry for good. Following in the footsteps of independent directors such as Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Aditya Assarat and Anocha Suvichakornpong, the industry veteran is seeking sponsorship from overseas film festivals for his first project.
The film will be called "Surya" (Suriya), and next year it will be put up for sale on the market CineMart during the International Film Festival in Rotterdam.
Here are some details of the future project:
“Surya” is the biography of a mysterious Muay Thai fighter who lived in the 1940s in northeastern Thailand. The true story of an unhappy man who decided to live his life aimlessly: a life full of pleasures and sufferings, delights and failures. A short life, the owner of which does not care whether anyone remembers him.
His name is Suriya Luktung.
According to CineMart production should be handled by Trois Film.
А Hanging Sasanatieng admitted that he wanted to make a film “purely for fun.” :D
