Hans Sasanatieng leaves big cinema

Acclaimed Thai director Wisit Sasanatieng is set to retire from the Thai film industry. This was first mentioned in one of the Thai news blogs, hinting that after the premiere of the action movie “Red Eagle” (The Red Eagle), which is scheduled to take place on October 7, Sasanatieng will leave. But, as it turned out, this was not just another rumor or gossip, since the director himself confirmed his decision with a letter via email.

Here's what he wrote:

I decided to quit directing and do something else instead. I'm too tired and don't want to make full-length studio films anymore.

But if I ever return to directing again, it will mean that I have found a story for a film that I truly want to share, but in my own way, independent of anyone, separate from the studio.

Maybe I'll create a comic book. I've been planning this for a long, long time. Actually, I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. After I finish working on “Red Eagle,” I first want to just have a good rest.

According to journalist Wise Kwai, Hanging Sasanatieng is a talented illustrator and creative writer, so the idea of comics could be very interesting.
