In the new year, in our selection we are “selecting” a couple of interesting projects from the past.
The first of them is called "Hong Xiguan and the Treasure Map" (The Legend and Hag of Shaolin) and is an Internet film for Chinese online cinemas directed by Zhang Dicai (duology “Mutant Python”, “The History of Wuxia”).
Synopsis: During the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, Shaolin disciple Hong Xiguan, in order to complete his training and accept the legacy of master Cai Juyi, brought the Ming Dynasty treasure map entrusted to them before his death, and then went to Guangzhou. But the treasures contain powerful artifacts that are being hunted by dark forces.
We are interested in the project due to the participation of a martial artist and actor in it Vincent Zhao (“Wuxia”, “Counterattack”) and former boxing champion and now actor Gu Shanwei (“I am not Bruce Lee”, “18 Arhats of Shaolin”). And even though both of them were specifically “registered” in independent films for streaming services, they are still interesting to watch as on-screen fighters.
"Hong Xiguan and the Treasure Map" appeared on online platforms 2 декабря 2021 года and today you can even watch the film with Russian dubbing.
Let's fast forward to South Korea, where an action comedy appeared at the end of 2021 "Tiger Mask" (The Tiger Mask).
Film directed by debutant Yum Jong-won has nothing to do with the famous Japanese comic series "Tiger Mask" by Ikki Kajiwara. In any case, in the Japanese version it was about a wrestler, and in Jong-won’s film it was about martial arts.
The plot will unfold around a middle-aged man who is always unlucky in life. But one day he finds a mask with the image of a tiger from legends, puts it on and realizes that it gives him strength, skills and self-confidence.
The main role in the film was played by the actor Cho Han-sung (“Brothers in Heaven”, “Interpretation of Memories”), and he is accompanied by: Hwang Bo-woong (series “The Myth of Sisyphus”), Kang Byul ("Looking for Seoul") Jung Tae-woo (“Wind Warrior”) and other actors.
The film was released in online cinemas 30 декабря 2021 года.
Let's finish today's selection of trailers with a more serious project in relation to the two previous films. We are talking about the sequel to the successful adventure film of 2014 "Pirates" directed by Lee Yuk-hoon.
The director is responsible for the big-budget sequel Kim Joon-hoon, who previously directed the romantic comedy "Love According to Comics" (2010) and action movie "Detective by Chance" (2015)
A movie called "Pirates 2: Goblin Flag" has no plot connection to the first film, and tells the story of several pirate crews who set off in search of the great treasures of the Goryeo royal family.
It seems that the entire elite of South Korean cinema has gathered in the cast of the blockbuster: Kang Ha-neul ("Young Cops") Han Hyo-ju ("Inran: Wolf Brigade"), Lee Gwang-soo ("Mutant"), Kwon Sang-woo ("Hitman") Kim Sun-oh ("The Man from Nowhere") Lee Jong-hyun (“Okay! Madam”) and other actors.
The 20-million-dollar adventure film will be released in its homeland January 26 2022 years.
