Press conference before "Furious Phoenix"

In Thai, the name of the actress who played the lead role in Furious Phoenix is most correctly transliterated into English as Jeeja, but it is now written as Jija. Officially. This is exactly what it says on posters and T-shirts. That's why she took part in the martial arts and dance demonstration held at a recent press conference at the Esplanade Cineplex as Jija Yanin. Along with her were her partners on the set: Patrick “Kazoo” Tang and the trio “B-Boys”. Lekha Shankar was present at this event and sent the following report:

The “Chocolate” girl will return as “Furious Phoenix” when the film of the same name hits Thai cinemas on August 12.

At a press conference at the Esplanade Cineplex, the slender Janine looked fragile and calm - but only before she began showing off her martial arts skills. And then, with her tiny weight of 46 kg and height of 168 cm, the girl literally absorbed the strength during rotations and swings, “incinerating” the stage platform with her movements and knocking down all her male opponents.

The only one she spared was her co-star and male lead, and that was only because he was playing around with her, using the girl as his “weapon” of attack and defense.

In close combat, their opponents were the fighters and dancers from the trio “B-Boys”: Nui Sanddang, Boonprasert Salangam and Sompong Leartvimolkasame, for whom this film will be their debut.

Judging by the demo, "Furious Phoenix" could be a "fierce success" at the box office.

There is also a possibility that the action film will be well received in the international market. Ultimately, one of the main characters is an actor of French origin.

Patrick "Kazou" Tang is a Vietnamese-French fighter. Dark-haired, with a beard and an athletic build, Kazu always dreamed of playing the lead role in some action movie and now, thanks to “Furious Phoenix”, his dream has become a reality. Patrick's life also resembles a movie script.

Kazoo said he trained in martial arts in Paris and appeared in bit parts in several films, including “Denny the Dog” with Jet Li.

Patrick was simply stunned by watching “Ong-Bak” with Tony Jaa and went to the 2005 Cannes Film Festival with only one thought in his head - to meet the producer and director of “Ong-Bak” Prachya Pinkaev.

“I brought a CD with my work and was walking along the streets when I suddenly noticed it,” admitted Kazu, who does not speak Thai. “I only recognized him by his big badge with his name on it.”

The actor handed over his demo videos, and later Prachya invited him to Bangkok to train under the guidance of the martial arts guru himself - Panna Rittikrai.

“I trained for four years for this film,” Kazu said, noting with pride that in addition to fighting moves, he also performed a series of dances - salsa, hip-hop and breakdancing.

He talked non-stop about Jija. “She may be small, but have you noticed how powerfully she punches and kicks?”

Producer of “Furious Phoenix” Prachya Pinkaev and director Rashan Limtrakul also noted that Jija is “a unique find for Thai cinema.”

Prachya said the 60 million baht budget is double that of Ong Bak, but he is confident the film will break even.

Rashan stated that "Jija's acting potential is as good as her physical abilities."

This is Limtrakul's second full-length film. A full 14 years have passed since the release of his debut film, the drama “Romantic Blues”.

The director describes “Furious Phoenix” as an “action-packed melodrama”: “Love is a key theme in both of my films, and this action film in particular shows exactly how to 'fight for love!'” he said.

As for the actress herself, she first appeared in ordinary clothes, especially for the performance, and then changed into a “starry” outfit, shining with sequins, decorated with a large necklace and a jacket with several hangers, making her visually larger. Undoubtedly, she felt more comfortable in work clothes.

Janine admitted that she was delighted with the film and worked tirelessly.

Her brother and manager, Jeep, described how she worked nine hours a day, five days a week.

“After work, she was so hungry that she ate everything,” he said, noting that thanks to her rigorous training, none of those calories were wasted.

The little Thai star has made every effort to once again shock everyone with her next appearance on the big screen.”
