New review of the film Wu Xia

In many ways an action movie “Wu Xia” director Peter Chan rethought the principles of the martial arts film genre. Chan's intention to create something unique and special is clearly visible, and, by and large, he succeeded. The first half of the film is an investigation into the deaths of two notorious criminals who are also highly skilled fighters. The analysis of combat scenes, carried out in the mind of the investigator, uses scientific knowledge to interpret injuries, and is an innovative way of storytelling.

After an energetic start, the film goes into overdrive in the second half. Action fans will no doubt be very pleased with the fight scenes, performed, conceived and choreographed personally Donnie Yen. Naturally, they are, as always, at a high level, which is to be expected from Donnie Yen. The most interesting thing is that for his dramatic acting Ian, apparently spent the same amount of time as he did fighting. In fact, this is his best performance yet, and unfortunately may be overshadowed by the attention-grabbing action scenes.

Takeshi Kaneshiro coped well with the role of investigator, but Tang Wei pleasing to the eye, but in the role of an ordinary village woman she looks somewhat limited. It was a very pleasant surprise to be included in the list of actors. Kara Hui. She is an experienced actress and fighter, who has recently been playing mostly dramatic roles. It was nice to see her in an action movie again.

“Wu Xia” - a magnificent, gorgeously shot, high-quality action movie with exciting fights. What is most impressive is the desire to create something new, unusual and original. It would have been nice if the approach used in the first fights had been carried over into the second half of the film, but this is just a minor quibble in an excellent film that can easily be called a new classic of martial arts films.

Does anyone have any information about the DVD release date?

You can watch. Weighs 350 megs. Another translation would be: almost the entire film is spoken.

All that remains is to look and make your own opinion about the picture.

Yes, I would watch it too. and then some praise, while others, on the contrary, almost spit. Like, the beginning is philosophical, but the ending is a stupid action thriller, the plot is illogical, Takeshi speaks Chinese with a Szechuan dialect when everyone speaks Mandarin, etc.

    The taste and color.

By the way, Ilya, Evans hinted that it would be nice to “pit” Yuvays and Takeda on the screen. Maybe he was up to something?..

Who knows what's in his head. The main thing is that there is progress.

"can be called a new classic of martial arts films": that's a strong word, we'll see. I didn't see the new classics in the trailers.

The author of one Chinese (!) review said something that almost left me speechless. It turns out that “wuxia” are films with Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan... Wow! o_O
