A remake of AWOL is just around the corner

About the fact that the director Albert Pyun (“Cyborg”, “Nemesis”) is going to remake the cult film Jean-Claude Van Damme «AWOL"(Lionheart, 1990), was known back in 2014. However, more recently, information appeared that Pyun was out of work. But the remake of AWOL, nevertheless, became even more real.

According to the news agency Impact's Mike Leader, film company Moonstone Entertainment and producer Ernst Storo (Rise of the Falcon) have begun pre-production on the film, which is expected to begin filming before the end of this year. Nothing is known yet about who will be part of the cast and crew.

Original film Lionheart, which, thanks to Russian video pirates of the early 90s, became known among us as “AWOL", is considered one of the best films of Jean-Claude Van Damme. It is not surprising that during a time of acute shortage of ideas and the somewhat increased popularity of action cinema, it was AWOL that the choice fell on the filming of the remake.

Van Damme's old hits are generally popular among producers who want make these films for a new generation. Considered for remakes and "Bloody sport"(1988) and"time patrol"(1994), and an updated version of the classic "Kickboxer"(1989) will be released in August.

Remake? Come on!!! I also understand if there was a sequel with JCVD on board. AWOL is one of my favorite films and it’s somehow unpleasant to see how the producers are spinning around this picture.

It’s strange that Hard Target 2 with Adkins was not mentioned at the end of the article...
