Review of the film “District 13: Brick Mansions” from Belba Pavel

Let's start with the good: David Belle looks great again, otherwise in the sequel to "District 13" and even more so in "Malavita" he looked somehow saggy and plump; in "Mansions" he is again in good shape and actively demonstrates his beloved parkour + his first big role since the original duology.

The first two scenes in which we are introduced to the main characters are also good, they almost exactly repeat the same scenes from the original (only worse), but they feel the spirit of the cult “13th district” of 2004 (after this you want review it again). That's all!!! =)

Plot

As you can guess from the trailers... the remake is almost a complete carbon copy of the original (although they brought in a line of vendetta that never happened... but it didn't get any better) + the final scene from "District 13: Ultimatum" + excellent driver Brian O'Connor performed by Paul Walker from “The Fast and the Furious” (even though his name here is Damien, it doesn’t make him a worse driver).

At the same time, the plot is constantly in a hurry. Unlike the original, here everything seems to have happened in 3-4 days (today Lino was captured, tomorrow he escaped with Damien, the day after tomorrow they saved everyone). Because of this, those who have not seen the 2004 film may have questions regarding some of the actions of the characters in the film (although over time you forget about this, since the main points are still chewed over at the very end). + I want to note that if in the original I was amazed how Leito’s sister stopped being a drug addict so quickly, here the creators surprised me even more... they turned hardened criminals from the most brutal gang, at one point, into the best people in the world and into the hope of all residents "Brick Mansions" district BRAVO!!!

Cast

Belle is good, although he was not allowed to develop to his full potential in terms of action (besides, there was always a deja vu effect in the scenes with his character =). Walker...I have a good attitude towards him, but after Cyril’s Damien, his Damien looks extremely weak. The same can be said about RZA, who (after the charismatic asshole played by Bibi Naseri from the original) is not even worth looking at. Thank you for at least not pretending to be a martial arts master here (although Timati’s voice acting cancels out this plus =D).

Action

It’s larger-scale, but at the same time it’s nowhere near Pierre Morel’s film. There is no drive and novelty that was in the “13th District”, the fights are trying to reach the original source, but terrible editing and camera work + lazy choreographers nullify these attempts (once I caught myself thinking that I could hear the sounds of blows, and the blows themselves... just don’t fall into the frame). Paul Walker also tries really, really hard to look cool in fights, but it doesn't work. The choreographers constantly adjust the fights to his physical capabilities, which is why they look extremely poor, and so that he is not overshadowed by Belle with her parkour, they also cut his fights, in the end the film only loses from this. (I just want to forget the fight between the lesbian bastard Raiza and Lola)

Separately, I want to talk about the soundtrack, which is simply not here. “District 13” had an excellent OST, but here...even RZA (whom I have a good attitude towards when it comes to music) didn’t try and didn’t compose a single normal composition.

In general, why the hell should this film be made, I don’t know. It would be better if they made a sequel with the original compositionаthan this half-parody. The film is good only because it makes you want to re-watch the original source for the hundredth time.

A couple of days ago I went to the cinema and I don’t regret the time spent) An entertaining movie) Almost continuous (which by the way I love) action!)

    I'll try to be objective.
Almost everything (and even some moments) are ripped off from the original. But on top of all this, some action scenes and fights have been added.
To put it simply...imagine the original with a more extended/additional version of the chases and fights.

The only thing that really infuriated me was that again cinder blocks are being broken here with bare fists or on the head... well, what kind of nonsense is this???

Okay, the result... I liked it overall and how the release will be, I will watch it again with pleasure)

Damien was very cool - I can’t imagine Walker in his place.
And I don’t really understand the point of a remake with the same main actor - this is some kind of nonsense.

to be honest, the first fight with GSP was filmed better than the subsequent ones in the film, there are more long shots and the blows are better visible (although it may have seemed =)

No, it didn't seem like it. There were more general plans, more clearly readable strikes, the footwork was decent, and in general, compared to other fights, there was a variety of techniques, there were fewer editing cuts and unnecessary changes of angles.

The rating is different. According to comics, he is 12+ mostly.

Yes, right now, in my opinion, Hollywood films in such a way that films based on comic books are no different from films not based on comic books. I have nothing against it, but it usually turns out to be light, entertaining chewing gum. In a good case it’s like “Kick-Ass”, in a bad case it’s like “Kick-Ass 2”.
    Excellent: “Scott Pilgrim vs. Everyone.”

In general, I agree, although about the dynamics and 3D I would rather disagree than agree. =)

In our case, only the first fight between the Captain and the mercenary Bartok is well received, for which thanks to Georges St. Pierre, and certainly not to Evans or anyone else.

St. Pierre and his stunt double (there are suspicions that he did the acrobatics...although he is in excellent shape, he could have done it). =) By the way... it’s good that I reminded you... to be honest, the first fight with GSP and it was shot better than the subsequent ones in the film, there are more long shots and the blows are better visible (although it may have seemed =)

Regarding Captain America 2: IMHO, or you can’t film hand-to-hand combat in 3D at all. Or they haven't learned yet. It’s a paradox, but this doesn’t make the fighting game any more voluminous, more real, or more impressive, but only loses in dynamics. In our case, only the first fight between the Captain and the mercenary Bartok is well received, for which thanks to Georges St. Pierre, and certainly not to Evans or anyone else. The combat in Cap 2 is simply better than anything else in big budget superhero movies. Fights are good not in themselves, but in relation to everything else. But there is a positive difference from Raid 2, Raid 2 turned out to be more boring.

Jumping Belle, Jumping Belle, Jumping all the way!..

    =D

Damn, I really wanted to watch it, but you see, they don’t show it in our city! But the Black Rose will be shown...

I remembered how one of the foreign sites about martial arts in cinema published a trailer for Rosa with the words “Adrian, Matthias... please kill Nevsky so that he stops making such films” =)

Celpaso, i.e. Do you recommend taking a look at the captain?

To be honest...if you don’t really have an aversion to comics, then I recommend it, because... The movie is quite good in its class.

This is what I expected, everything came true. I saw fragments (I will watch the film itself in quality), so I’ll say that I once disagreed with the opinion of one of the participants that Walker would be no worse than Statham in fights - and I think I was right, the fights are weak

I’ll look at the mansions when I wait for a quality rip online and I’m in the mood. I'll look at Bell.

    Thanks for posting. =)

By the way, from the last thing I saw in the movies...the best fights were in Captain America 2, oddly enough. Although it was poorly filmed and there are a lot of stunt doubles, the drive is felt + The captain (after the terrible first part) turned out to be an excellent character when it comes to action. He's not as strong as the Hulk and doesn't use lasers/guns, so all the action with him ends up being melee. + when there was a choice of what to go for the second time - Raid 2 or Captain America 2... I chose the Captain. =D In terms of fights in superhero films, he's the best since Blade.

They filmed it solely for the sake of the American public, because the French original passed their eyes and the box office.
So we don't have to look.

This also seems true and is quite expected.
