to paraphrase: Why, despite quite decent anime (Ghost in the Shell, for example), are the films so brutally trash?

      MaximKa,

Because trzhsh is popular and cheap. But they are not the only ones who live Japanese cinema, thank God. You just need to search and carefully read the synopses of the films you are going to watch.

I have never seen such perversion of a powerful horror anime.

If we talk about Japanese combat films, their dawn was in the 70s. Then Sonny Chiba and his JAC team ruled the roost. And they have a lot of great films.

By the way, the Japanese have a lot of great films with BI, for example: “Judo Genius”, “Black Belt”, “Owl’s Castle”, “Shinobi”, “13 Assassins”, “Taboo”, and the same “Tramp Kenshin”. There are many films (especially historical ones) with beautiful music, colorful pictures, gorgeous costumes, and action scenes at the highest level.

The Japanese have always made a lot of trash, especially after the crisis in Japanese cinema in the late 80s. There is simply a demand for such films, that’s all. And they get better at trash and move on to higher-budget films. There are always examples like Sion Sono, Takashi Miike and Ryuhei Kitamura.

Oh yeah right. The Chinese are filming the worst shit these days. Even though these famous masters don’t take off their money, bribes are fine from them. And the Chinese will assemble a fantastic cast simply - the master sits on the master and drives the master - and what comes out is the most disgraceful shit, like “War of the Wolves”, “Wu-dan”, or “The Naked Soldier”. The Japs traditionally produce a lot of trash - cultural cartoons, what can you do (some even like it). :)

And again, Japanese unwatchable gov... Why do the Chinese make films thousands of times better than the Japanese?
