"Bruce Lee's wrestling technique" (Bruce Lee's Fighting Method) is an invaluable martial arts reference work that details methods of self-defense, perception development, and physical skill training.

Bruce Lee began writing this book in the late 1960s; demonstration photographs for this work were taken in 1967. Bruce wanted the book to be published in a limited edition, no more than 200 copies, and positioned as a teaching aid for him Jeet Kune Do system.

foreword

After the photographs have been taken, Lee changed his mind about the book and focused on his other endeavors. Maybe, Bruce was concerned that other masters would use the knowledge contained in the book to advance themselves, and this contributed to him putting the book aside for a while.

In 1972 he took more photographs and it seemed that he had started working on the book again, however, he never got around to releasing it.

In 1978, the book was published in 4 parts as "Bruce Lee's wrestling technique"(Bruce Lee's Fighting Method - Volume 1-4). Each book was a bestseller and remained in print for a certain time.

In 2008, this manual was released in hardcover, it included all 4 previous books and additionally included a section called "Five ways to attack" Ted Wong.

Book Review

The book is impressive at first glance. It has a decent page size, A4 format, and is over an inch thick. On the cover is a photo of the great image of Bruce Lee, in a strong pose.

When we open the book, we get the first impression of how extensive it is, the content includes almost 500 pages of lessons Bruce. The first paragraphs in the book are the preface and introduction. Foreword written by daughter LeeShannon, with introduction M. Uehara.

Then, we open the first part of the book, containing 5 chapters that are devoted to basic training. This part covers drills, positions and footwork, as well as speed and explosiveness training. Part 100's XNUMX-plus pages are filled with great photos and tips on aerobic exercise, flexibility, stance, and balance training. The chapter on feet is particularly well illustrated, including photos and line diagrams highlighting proper foot placement, with explanations.

The second part is called "Technique Skill" (Skill in Techniques), and includes chapters on how to move, hit and avoid being hit. Again, this part is filled with brilliant photographs Bruce Lee , showing and explaining various techniques including grappling, kicking, choking and parrying. Particularly interesting is the section with goals to strive for, as well as the chapter on sparring. As the book emphasizes - Bruce Lee said:

A fighter who trains without sparring is like a swimmer who is not submerged in water.

The next, third part is called "Advanced Techniques" (Advanced Techniques) and includes 2 chapters on tactics, hand and foot techniques in offense and defense, and counterattacks. This part also includes a new section written by one of the students Bruce Lee, Ted Wong stated, "Five ways to attack". And this section is filled with clear and exciting photographs, with plenty of explanation. New section from Ted Wong affects later years of life  Brucewhen he began teaching and taking notes on martial techniques, which he called "Five ways to attack"They relied heavily on research Lee about fencing.

Finally we come to part 4, entitled "Self-defense methods"(Self-Defensive Techniques). This section contains some valuable photographs Bruce Leedemonstrating self-defense techniques on the street. This part of the book includes defensive techniques against strikes, grabs, chokeholds, armed and multiple opponents. There are some amazing techniques, like grabbing the hair to move an opponent. The last chapter is called "Defense in a vulnerable position" (Defense from a Vulnerable Position), and includes protection in a sitting or lying position.

Summary

This book is a fantastic primer on the combat system Bruce Lee. It is suitable for all levels of fighting training, and covers a wide variety of techniques for both beginners and advanced. It's also suitable for any B fan.Ryusa Lee, even someone who has never trained in martial arts, as it contains a lot of great pictures Bruce and his students, as well as many thoughts about the philosophy of combat.

Since Lee did not finish this book and it was published posthumously  Uehara, you will get a great experience of his style.

Bruce wrote poetry and published many articles about martial arts.  M. Uehara was the founder and owner"Black Belt Magazine" (popular American martial arts magazine). The combination of these two talents gives us a very well written book. The photographs are abundant and they are fantastic.

      Ice,
There is a scanned version. In our VK group. In documents. It seems that the 2008 re-release was not translated into Russian, but the previous 5 books are available. By the way. the same thing, only one chapter is missing with Bruce's student.

        barsug,

It was precisely these books that I had difficulty finding for sale many years ago for my literature collection. Excellent books, I can also recommend them to those who are interested in Bruce's books.
