Donnie Yen will again play the crime boss, and Michael Jai White and his wife will save their daughter

One of the most popular actors in combat cinema of our time is Chinese Donnie Yen (the Ip Man franchise) continues to grow in projects. While his fans are waiting for the premiere of the Hollywood blockbuster Mulan and Chinese action movie "Crossfire", new films starring Ian are announced.

For example, we already wrote about the thriller "Search and rescue in the Arctic" and fantasy film "Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber". But they are joined by a crime thriller called "Golden Empire" (Golden Empire).

According to the Deadline, the project is supervised by the producer Peter Law ("Crazy Rich Asians") and company Starlight Media and SA Inc.

In the new film, the hand-to-hand action legend will play a drug lord who ends up on the most wanted list in the United States and Mexico for his exploits.

Nothing more is known about the project. U "Golden Empire" There is still no director and the rest of the cast, which promises to be international. It is quite possible that this role for Ian will not be a combat one. True, in another work of Donnie, where he played an elite class criminal ("Chasing Dragons"), there were still hand-to-hand scenes.

Donnie Yen to star in Sleeping Dogs adaptation

Also quite suddenly Donnie Yen reminded his fans on social networks that he is still attached to the main role in the film adaptation of the cult computer game from Square Enix "Sleeping Dogs" (Sleeping Dogs). About it стало известно back in 2017, but the project never reached the filming stage.

However, Yen stated that the film will still be made. The producer is still at the helm of the project Neil Moretz (Fast and Furious franchise) and film company DJ2 Entertainment. But the upcoming action movie still doesn't have a director.

As a reminder, Donnie Yen is set to play undercover cop Wei Shan, who is transferred to Hong Kong to infiltrate the heart of the Triad.

It is worth mentioning that Yen’s rating in Hong Kong has dropped noticeably recently after the actor supported China’s policy towards Hong Kong, namely the adoption of a national security law in Hong Kong, depriving it of its autonomy status.

In addition, we want to speculate whether 57-year-old Yen is too old to play Wei Shan? After all, Donnie’s younger colleagues could look much more interesting in this role: Andy He, Philip Ng or Eddie Pan. But it seems that Ian’s world fame decides a lot. And what do you think?

I'll wait for White. And Donnie Yen is relatively new to being on fire in “Big Brother,” so I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more to come from him. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if the opposite is true; after all, age is an unstoppable thing.
