Detective Di is a box office leader in China

During the days of celebrating the next anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, a historical detective story with action elements called “Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Fire” (Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame) directed by Tsui Harka came out on top at the box office in China.

In seven days “Detective Dee” managed to collect 140 million yuan (21 million dollars). The total for all screening days was 180 million yuan ($27 million), since the distribution company Huayi Brothers began showing the film in theaters not on October 1, but on September 29.

The 140 million yuan mark is almost double the combined box office receipts of the other three Chinese films that were shown in cinemas across the country.

Galloping Horse Distribution Company Begins Showing Martial Arts Drama "The Power of the Killers" (Reign of Assassins) a day earlier from "Detective Dee". The film earned 30 million yuan ($4,5 million) over the holidays for a total of 45 million yuan ($6,7 million).

“Enlight Pictures” is still playing in cinemas “Fist of Legend: The Return of Chen Zhen” (Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen). Action movie with Donnie Yen in the title role earned 22 million yuan ($3,3 million) over the weekend, collecting 100 million yuan ($15 million) over all days of release.

Melodrama “Under the canopy of the hawthorn tree” (Under the Hawthorn Tree) added another 20 million yuan ($3 million) to its box office totals, which reached 120 million yuan ($18 million). It was distributed by China Film Group and Huaxia.

The second position is currently occupied by "Start" (Inception) with 50 million yuan ($7,5 million) collected during the holidays. Overall, the film has earned 410 million yuan ($61,5 million) since the beginning of September.

    This is a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio. A mixture of science fiction, detective, thriller, action and a lot of snot. Not for everybody, in general...

    The film has nothing to do with BI.
