Wilson Yip talks about Sammo Hungg and Ip Man 2

Wilson Yip, who admitted that the fight scenes in “Ip Mane 2” are the result of the painstaking work of Sammo Hungg, describes the battle between Donnie Yen и Sammo Hungg as the most memorable episode of the entire film:

“The choreography of Sammo Hungg’s “Big Brother” is truly magnificent, I really like it. And these are not just fights, there are elements of drama in it. Right before the start of the fight, Donnie Yen asked Sammo Hungg, who couldn’t wait to enter the arena, what was more important to him: determining the winner or eating with his family?”

Wilson Yip paid special attention in this competition to demonstrating the characteristic features of Wing Chun. As a result, Donnie Yen will have to win three battles in a row on the table until the incense stick (Chinese candle) burns out. For his opponents, Sammo Hungg specifically chose the “Monkey Fist” and “Eight Trigrams Palm” (Baguazhang / Eight Elements Palm) styles. Sammo himself used the “Hunggar” style in his duel with Donnie Yen.

To test the attacking and deceptive actions of Wing Chun, Lo Man will use the fast movements and jumps of the “Monkey Fist”. Meanwhile, Fu Hak On, with the “Eight Trigrams Palm”, with seemingly slow but actually fast movements, circles around and stays close to his opponent, striking at the most opportune moment. After the first two masters leave the arena, Sammo Hungg, the fastest fat fighter in the game, uses the powerful and aggressive movements of Hunggar against the chain strikes of Wing Chun - a fight between two worthy opponents.

Thanks to such exquisite choreography, the confrontation between various forms of martial arts and Wing Chun allows the viewer to better appreciate all the positive aspects of Wushu (Wushu). To add entertainment and risk, Sammo Hungg chose an arena with limited space for the fight - the surface of a round dining table for twenty people.

In summary, Wilson Yip said that the character of Ip Man, conveyed through fights, is a kind of prototype of patience or forbearance:

“The character “Wu” consists of two characters: one means “end”, the other means “weapon”. The essence of Chinese Wushu lies not in starting a fight, but in ending it. Striving for heights in the field of Wushu is not about winning or losing. This Ip Man is superior to his opponents not because of his desire to determine the winner or defeat another opponent, this is not a victory from a material point of view, this is a completely different level - victory without waging war.”

From Wiki (Sequels paragraph taken from wu-jing.org and dated October 30, 2009):

“Ip Man” is the first film in a planned trilogy. The upcoming sequel, Ip Man 2, based on the life of Ip Man, will feature Donnie Yen in the lead role. The film will center on Ip Man's move to Hong Kong to spread the martial art of Wing Chun; the focus will also be on a young Bruce Lee before he became one of Yip's most famous students. The Hong Kong premiere of “Ip Man 2” will take place at the end of April 2010.

Although the third and final film is currently in development, Donnie Yen has made it clear that the second film will be the last: “Ip Man 2 will undoubtedly be a classic, surpassing the first one. I believe that it is best to finish a job if it has reached perfection and can leave behind good memories.”

The information on kungfucinema is even older - from July 3, 2009, when the film did not even begin to be filmed, but were only recruiting actors. Consists of guesses about who will play Bruce Lee. They hinted at Danny Chan. Nothing particularly valuable, considering that the film will be released in just a month.
