Independent film trailers: Bound By Debt, Ghost Source Zero and Bond: Kizuna

By tradition, we share with you trailers of independent films on topics that interest us. By tradition, we hope that this is interesting to someone.

Martial artist and actor Paul Mormando, who starred in an old and little-known action movie "American Shaolin" (1991), as well as his producing debut - the series "Double Fist" (he also played the main role), prepared his new project called "Bound by Duty" (Bound By Debt).

This ultra-low-budget thriller with elements of hand-to-hand combat is directed by Paul's wife - Anna Mormando. She also wrote the script for the film.

Here's what the film's official synopsis says: Dylan James is a brutal, brutal underground fighter who is estranged from his family due to his lifestyle. His brother Robert James is even worse; he is addicted to card games like a drug addict, but lives with his wife and two daughters. When Dylan tries to get out of the underground business, the local tournament organizer, Mr. Russo, sets his brother against him, blackmailing him with gambling debts and reprisals against his family. Two brothers must reunite to save the people close to them.

Filming of the thriller ended last summer, and today the film is in the post-production stage. Filming took place in New York.

In addition to Paul Mormando, who played the main role of Dylan James, the film featured: Bobby Tsaysulli (TV series "The Real Housewives of New Jersey") Samuel DiFiore (“Brooklyn Gangster”) and others.

There is no word yet on when "Bound by Duty" will be released or how it will be distributed.

Therefore, all we can do is look at the promotional material for the future film.

Independent film director and founder of Planet Nerd Rage Productions Mark Cheng (not to be confused with its Hong Kong namesake!), was noted in 2011 for a high-profile fan project Operation: Red Retreat across the universe G.I. Joe, and now he has his sights set on a full-length film, and even in the genre of sci-fi cyberpunk.

The project is called Ghost Source Zero, and Cheng wanted to film it for quite a long time, but then luck smiled on the filmmaker in the person of a Hollywood screenwriter, as well as the creator of the comics GI Joe Larry Hama (animated series “G.I. Joe” and “X-Men”, film “All the Nights of the Century”). Larry helped Mark with the script, which follows an elite special forces unit, Section Nine, who fights cybercrime in a near-future metropolis. Now the members of the unit face a dangerous mission to save humanity from forced evolution into cyborgs.

The film, which, by the way, is rated R, stars the following actors: Joe Barbagallo ("Silence"), Jin Goto (TV series "The Black List"), Cage Yami ("Rage: The Ronan Pearce Stories"), Graham Powell (TV series "Law and Order"), as well as stuntman and stunt coordinator Jah Green, who worked on such series as "Revolution", "Suspect", "Gotham", "Ancients" and on the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster "Guardians of the Galaxy 2".

The film was in production for three whole years. When the funds ran out, Cheng and Hama raised funds through crowdfunding. And, despite the problems and little funding, Ghost Source Zero is still ready for release, which is why the creators launched a trailer by which one can judge the upcoming film.

It is not yet clear when and how the film will reach the audience. The creators of this fantastic action film are counting on a limited release in the United States in 2017, but they themselves emphasize that it may take years to obtain a distribution certificate.

And we watch the trailer and wait for the film, because... It turned out pretty good for a fan work.

03-kizuna

The next independent film we want to tell you about is called "Bonds of Justice" (Bond of justice: Kizuna) by Japanese director Ryuji Yamakita, whose credits include only second-rate science fiction "Reflexes of the Mirror Man" (2006)

Synopsis: Kate is a recent graduate of the police academy, and now an active detective gets involved in a serious case and becomes a witness to a contract murder. After the girl accidentally reveals herself, the killers set her free. But then a series of murders occurs, in the center of which Kate herself finds herself. Now she herself needs to become an unscrupulous killer in order to unravel the tangle of ominous mysteries in which many of Kate’s circle are woven.

As often happens with these types of films, Bonds of Justice, which is also called Bond: Kizuna, was filmed back in 2015, but was shelved due to problems with financing and distribution.

This crime thriller with elements of hand-to-hand combat stars: Courtney Palm ("Women's Fight Club") Alice Brown (TV series "The Bold and the Beautiful") Akina Minami (“Curse. Old woman in white”), David Yen ("Painted Faces"), himself Ryuji Yamakita, as well as a legend of action cinema Sonny Chiba, who has been repeatedly dragged into such projects for some time now.

Moreover, in photographs with the film crew, 77-year-old Sonny looks great. Maybe he bet someone on his participation in this film?

The film's DVD release is set for 30 August 2018 year.

I'll have to remember to catch Ghost Source Zero when it comes out. I would like to know at least approximately when.
