Filming has begun on The Monkey King with Donnie Yen

Filming of a big-budget 3D adaptation of the legendary film has begun in Beijing. “Journeys to the West”. Producer Chen Po Soi gave the film a simple title - “Monkey King” (The Monkey King). Will star in the leading role Donnie Yen, the remaining key roles will be divided among themselves Aaron Kwok, Peter Ho, Chen Qiao En и Chow Yun Fat.

As for the distribution of roles, then Chow Yun Fat will play the Jade Emperor, Aaron Kwok - The Buffalo King with an axe, Peter Ho - Er Lan Shen, ah Chen Qiao En – Princess Iron Fan.

According to some sources, the budget “The Monkey King” increased from 45 to 60 million dollars, of which 6 million will be received by Chow Yun Fat, 4 million by Donnie Yen and 1,2 million by Aaron Kwok. Filming will last 5 months, then the film will be in post-production for 15 months. The premiere should take place in the summer of 2012.
