Cast of Netflix projects "Avatar" and "47 Ronin", new action movie by John Woo

News that the streaming giant Netflix bought the rights for the film adaptation of the famous fantasy cartoon "Avatar: The Legend of Aang", was back in 2018. The project took a long time to reach the implementation stage, but recently the cast of the future series became known.

Because, peace "Avatar" inhabited by magicians of the four elements who control them using movements from martial arts, fans of the original were worried that they would cast actors who were not versed in martial arts. But it seems we can breathe a sigh of relief.

The main role of the boy Aang will be played by a 12-year-old Canadian actor of Filipino origin. Gordon Cormier (TV series “Lost in Space”), who practices taekwondo, albeit as a hobby. 20-year-old Chinese American Dallas Liu (“Tekken,” “The Losers,” “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) will play the role of Prince of the Fire Nation Zuko, while representing the North American Shotokan Karate Association. To a 19-year-old American with Indian roots Ian Ausley (TV series “13 Reasons Why”) got the role of a young warrior of the Water people named Sokko, fortunately Ausli has been studying taekwondo since the age of 9 and even takes part in tournaments. But the 15-year-old Canadian actress Kiaventio, who will play the role of Sokko’s sister, the water magician Kataru, has no martial arts background, although the girl is an excellent dancer.

But the role of the main villain of the story - the lord of the Fire Nation named Ozai will be played by a venerable actor Daniel Dae Kim (TV series “Hawaii Five.5.0”, “Hellboy”).

There is no information yet about the start date of filming, but we hope that the series will appear before the end of 2022.

Another project from Netflix, which we expect, has acquired a custom. We're talking about a cyberpunk adaptation of a classic samurai story. "47 Ronin"about which we have already mentioned.

The project belongs to a martial artist, stuntman, actor and director Ron Yuan (“Mulan”) and film companies Universal 1440. The genre of the future film will be horror fiction with samurai and ninjas in the setting of an exotic cyberpunk world.

A Vietnamese martial artist, actor and director spoke about the cast on his Instagram Dustin Nguyen (“Rebel”, “Once Upon a Time in Vietnam”, “Iron Fist 2”), who seems to be assigned one of the main roles.

The rest of the acting ensemble includes people for whom on-screen fights are not an empty phrase: Yoshi Sudarso ("Cowboys", "Paper Tigers"), Mike Mo (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, series “Street Fighter”), Chris Pang (“Dragon Fist”, “Charlie’s Angels”), as well as beauties Teresa Ting (TV series "Bull") and Anna Akana ("Ant-Man")

The post says that filming has already started in Budapest. We hope that with such a cast we will have excellent scenes of hand-to-hand combat. All we have to do is wait for the trailer and release date.

Legendary Chinese director John Woo (“Heroes Don’t Cry,” “Bullet in the Head,” “Face Off”) signed up for a new project, which should be a Hollywood action movie.

The master has not worked with American cinema since 2003, when he released an action film "Hour of Reckoning" starring Ben Affleck and Uma Thurman. The new film is called "Quiet night" (Silent Night) and the genre will be an action thriller about a father who descends into the underworld to avenge the death of his son. The main feature of the film is the absence of lines from the main character (and some write that in general – from all characters).

The main role in the action movie is given to the stately Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad duology, Altered Carbon series).

The producers of the project are: Basil Iwanyk и Erica Leewho are working on a franchise "John Wick". In view of this, obviously, we will still see familiar names in the caste or camp of action directors. Anyway, "Quiet night" - this is at least an interesting project. We just have to wait for news.
