Official information has emerged that Donnie Yen has been chosen to play the lead role in the film directed by Chen Po Soi “Monkey King: Wreaking Havoc In Heavenly Palace”. In one of the early news I mentioned, that two possible candidates were considered for the role of the Monkey King - Jet Li and Donnie Yen. The following key roles have not yet been cast: the demonic Buffalo King, Princess Iron Fan, Jade Emperor and Erlang Shen.
Using a budget of $45 million, Filmko Pictures plans to shoot this film adaptation of the sci-fi legend in 3D IMAX. The New Zealand company Weta Digital (the Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong, Avatar) will be responsible for the special effects.
Judging by the inscription on the poster, the release date is set for February 2012.
