Sahamongkolfilm International announced its upcoming projects at the Cannes Film Market. Among other films, I would like to mention two interesting action films: “Bangkok Knockout” and “Chocolate 2”.
“Bangkok Knockout” will be directed by Panna Rittikrai, and the film itself will tell about a group of friends, like a “fight club”, mastering various styles of martial arts, starting with Muay Thai and capoeira, ending with kung fu and Tai Chi (nine styles in total). When one of them is kidnapped, they will have to fight for their lives.
Sahamongkolfilm also started selling the action movie “Chocolate 2”. The second part will be directed by the same Prachya Pinkaev, and will again star in the leading role “Jija” Yanine Vismistananda. The film is currently in pre-production and shooting is likely to begin next year.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles-based Epic Pictures has signed a deal with Thailand's Film Frame Productions to co-produce and co-finance three films. All three films will be English-language action films starring memorable male actors. The first of the trio, The Sanctuary 2, starring Russell Wong, follows a man who travels to the Thai-Cambodian border in search of the Emerald Buddha. The action film “Sanctuary 2” is due out later this year.
Epic Pictures recently acquired the rights to the Swedish action-adventure film “Skills,” from director Johannes Pinter, starring parkour artist Marcus Gustafsson, skateboarder Mai Magnusson and fighter Tim Man. Work on the film is expected to wrap up shortly after the Cannes Film Festival.
