Once I heard that in Yakutia, it turns out, they also film action films. So I went out to the trailer"Heroes. Battle for the Cup"Afterwards I watched the film itself, it’s short - just over an hour.
Unfortunately, during my first viewing I could not find it in Russian; yes, the titles and intro are all in Russian - but the characters speak, as I understand it, in Yakut, I didn’t find any subtitles and started watching it that way.
Based on the plot given in the annotation, and as the film progressed, I understood the following: the guys from some village, like you and me all in childhood, had seen enough of action films and began to imitate them in yard games. Someone suggested holding an annual tournament, where everyone, having chosen their own fighter for cosplay, had to defeat all opponents and receive a cup. Over time, the guys grew up - but the tournament remained and is still held. But this time there was a hitch - someone whistled the cup. Suspicion falls on "Jackie Chan"...
The characters call themselves and each other nothing more than movie heroes, not by name. Present: "Bruce Lee" (at the beginning in the main character's dream), "Bolo Yen", "Jackie Chan", "Sub-Zero", "Brian Fury", "Jin Kazama", "Ong Bak" and "Van Damme" ( +/- someone else, if I haven’t forgotten). The film itself tries to parody the clichés of Asian comedies.
What happened to the Yakuts?
- The fights for such an action movie (C-class, self-propelled subtype) are quite good, I especially note the fight with Sub-Zero, the fight with Van Damme, the fight with Bruce Lee at the beginning (even if he didn’t squeal , oddly enough), the fight between “Ong Baka” and the bikers, and the final fight.
- The training montages were well cosplayed and parodied - especially the “Jackie Chan” training with the old Master, which well ridiculed the cliches of old films with the original Chan.
- Suddenly, there are some good special effects (although there are not many of them). I've seen worse in a number of Russian blockbusters.
- Good music. Both local and remixed themes from old action films, I was pleased to hear them again - and they were spot on.
- Some actors even tried to act something. The result was “Bolo”, “Sub-Zero”, the Master and “Jackie Chan”, I would like to note the parents of the heroes and the leader of the bikers - they were played with a parody of freaks from Asian comedies. The rest are not very good, especially “Brian Fury” (too tough a fighter to trust his cosplay to a plot “sucker”) and “Jin Kazama”.
The negative side is the excessive length of the comedy part of the film (and the family squabbles of several characters that I did not understand due to the language barrier) and the loss of a number of characters in one or two hits, which is a noticeable minus.
But, as they say, if you criticize, suggest. What would I do?
- I would add more characters (+ female) and make the battles longer, focusing the plot on this.
- I would remove the excessive Asian comedy. Dragging out the comedy part for too long is not a plus for a film called an action movie
- You can - and should - merge it into one blow! But not such a serious fighter as Jin Kazama.
- It would be nice to add mini-games for breaking bricks, boards, and so on.
- Improve the installation by a couple of percent.
- I would release such a film with Russian dubbing and subtitles IMMEDIATELY. Many people were unable to appreciate the film due to the language barrier.
- "Bolo" is good, but if "Shao Kahn" or "Bison" had come out after it, it would have been even better.
"Heroes - battle for the Cup" is a great idea that fell into the hands of inexperienced people: this is a good plot for both a comedy and a serious action movie. Let's not seriously find fault with this attempt to make a "Children's action movie with a children's plot" and forgive all the shortcomings for the first time. I wish the Yakuts Good luck to the guys and I'm looking forward to the second part (Scorpion and Wolverine appeared very impressively, as if parodying the ending of "Mortal Kombat 1"), but the second time the viewer will judge much more harshly.
