Hwang Zhang Lee. Questions and answers with Seni 2014

Note: all questions from the audience are answered by the master Hwang Zhang Lee answered in English.

Question from the audience: Thanks to what exercises do you manage to keep your legs in shape?

Hwang Zhang Lee: My legs are ordinary, there is nothing special about them. When I train, I always use my hips, circular movements (HCL begins to rotate his hips, but not at all like that, this is how they do it in the Hawaiian Hula dance). The hips are where the power comes from. When I kick like this (throws a side kick) and like this (throws a front kick and the audience goes crazy), it all comes from the hip.

Question from the audience: You are a master of taekwondo, but how did you manage to learn the other kung fu styles that you used in films?

Hwang Zhang Lee: They just showed me the moves on set. This is the “Eagle Claw” (takes a stance, the audience goes wild), and this is the “Snake Fist” (takes a stance again, the audience goes wild). That's how I learned, I just copied the movements.

Question from the audience: You have starred in many films with Bruce Lee doubles. Do you keep in touch with any of them?

Hwang Zhang Lee: Yes, you know Bruce Le? In Europe, we starred in several films with him. Last month he called me and asked if I would like to play in a new film with his participation. I said: “Of course, we’ll see what’s what.”

Question from the audience: It is clear that you studied taekwondo in its true form. What do you think about Olympic taekwondo?

Hwang Zhang Lee: The differences are very big. Taekwondo was created in order to kill people (the audience in the hall laughs, but soon realizes that he is extremely serious). Taekwondo at the Olympics is a sport, it is not a martial art, which is why I don’t really like this style. I consider real taekwondo a martial art.
