Trailer for the film "Birth of the Dragon" with Philip Ng

The trailer for the legendary Bruce Lee film, expected by fans, has appeared online. "Birth of the Dragon".

Let us remember that the main leitmotif of the film is a semi-mythical fight Bruce Lee with the master Wong Jack-Man, who was a monk. From the trailer, which was shown at the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF-2016), it is clear that the main character of the film will not be Bruce himself, but a character named Steve, played by Billy Magnusen (“Bridge of Spies”). Apparently, the story will be told from his perspective.

К "Birth of the Dragon" Not the last people in Hollywood were involved. We worked on the script Stephen Revier и Christopher Wilkinson, who between them have scripts for very strong biopics "Ali" (2001) and "Nixon" (1995). At the director's helm is George Nolfi, which was noted for such films as "Reality Changer" and the series "Devotion".

Brings the legendary Bruce Lee to life on screen Philip Ng is a rising star of Hong Kong action cinema, who has already shone in such Chinese hits as "Once Upon a Time in Shanghai" (2014) "From Vegas to Macau" (2014) "Teacher vs Vampires" (2014) "Zombie Fight Club" (2014) and "Wild City" (2015)

He played Bruce Lee's main rival, Master Wong. Xia Yu (“Mojin”, “Crazy New Year”). The rest of the cast lit up: Qu Jingqing ("The Great Magician") Ron Yuan ("Drive"), King Lau (“Kick-Ass 2”) and others.

The fight choreography in the film was choreographed by the legendary Corey Yuen (“Kiss of the Dragon”, “No Retreat and No Surrender 2”, “Once Upon a Time in China”), and among the stuntmen we knew, we found the name Alfred Sina, who was a stunt double Xia Yuya.

For rent "Birth of the Dragon" will depart no earlier than the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017. In any case, the filmmakers have not yet announced an official premiere date.

In addition to the trailer, new posters of the film have appeared.

Philip Ng himself actively posted photos from the trailer premiere at TIFF 2016 on his Instagram. We invite you to watch them too.

"Birth of the Dragon" was finally shown in Russian cinemas in the fall of 2017! Even in our Yakutsk))) I wasn’t too lazy to go!
I personally liked it! As I understand it, the film presents Wong Jack Man's version of events with artistic additions about the storyline of an American boy with a Chinese girl. The main character of the film is not Bruce Lee, but a Shaolin master who influenced the development of Bruce Lee's style.
The script is simple, but with a simple, understandable philosophy. Hand-to-hand fights are partially “decorated” with cables, but not critically. Wing Chun is present. There are no fights like the Undeniable series, which, on the contrary, plus I think - at that time there was no tricking and precise acrobatics.
I rate it a four! The film was a success!

Movie on torrents. I looked. Better than I feared. This is exactly what a good film is, a simple story, well-acted and well-shot. Philip Ng and Xia Yu played well, they did. But there was no outstanding hand-to-hand combat. One good, but small kung fu fight and a couple of street fights. The second “Undeniable”, for example, is cooler.

Ps And by the way, I liked Philip Ng as Bruce. He looked normal here, without antics, without overacting, but just as young and daring as, in fact, Bruce Lee.

Doesn't look like Bruce Lee at all! And these torsos...

        TIMMONS,

        Why is it not similar?

Don't know. I just didn't see Bruce Lee in him. And the one from Ip Man 3, who starred in the series about Bruce. He's a little similar. But this one doesn't.

Here, it seems to me, we should not be talking about external resemblance (and is it really necessary when the film is about a fighter?), but about the manner of fighting, the movements, the emotional message, and Philip is all right with this. As far as I remember, this is precisely why he was cast in the role of Bruce. And the external similarity... how many of them have there already been - similar and passing by?.. Philip Ng has actually become a discovery for me recently (thanks to this site). Regarding Birth of a Warrior, everyone now has big doubts only about that white guy who runs from teacher to teacher: why the hell did he give up in a film about legendary fighters?

DIV, here’s another opinion from comments from a blog about cinema (not just combat):

some kind of little Chinese pug. From a distance it generally looks white. and this spoils all the raspberries.

Since so many people say that it is not similar, maybe it really is not similar? He also seems somehow not Brusolivsky to me.

Corey Yuenya needs to be hit in the head for each cable so that he doesn’t use any more cables, but seriously, in the kiss of the dragon where he staged the fights, it seems there are no cables at all.

For me, the trailer turned out to be quite interesting. But it’s already clear that Corey Yuen didn’t get away from flying on wires even in the film about the “down-to-earth” Bruce Lee. It is certainly beautiful and modern, but it’s a pity.

Danil Chupakhin, it seems that Bruce Lee also used cables. In any case, I remember in “Fist of Fury” the moment when Bruce and the enemy jump on each other, Bruce kicks the enemy in the face, and he flies into the yard - something I remember is that there were no natural flights there. And this is an impression from those times when I still had little understanding of where cables were used.

        Wave,

In Bruce's films, yes, there were cables, although there were no flying flights. But "Birth of the Dragon" is a film about Bruce as a person. A sort of biopic. Why are there cables and flights here?
