Several famous Hong Kong directors have prepared a project called "Septet: The Story of Hong Kong" (Septet: The Story of Hong Kong), which is an anthology of eight stories.
In fact, this project is already four years old and previously the anthology was called "Nine and a Half" at the helm of which was a classic of Chinese cinema Ringo Lam ("Dragon Twins", "Wild City", "Sky on Fire"). Lam managed to film his story just before his death on December 29, 2018. After this, filming stalled. Then one of the signed directors left the project - John Woo. This was the reason for changing the name of the anthology.
As a result, the directors of eight stories in addition to Ringo Lama become: Sammo Hungg ("Mr. Cool", "Old Bodyguard"), Ann Hui (“Stuntwoman”, “Time is Running Out”), Patrick Tam ("Sword", Love Massacre), Johnny To (Election trilogy), Tsui Hark (“Bright Future”, “Detective Dee” trilogy) and Yuen Wu-Ping ("Drunken Master", "Master Z: The Legacy of Ip Man"). The script belongs to the pen Wai Ka-Faya (“Drug War”, “Chasing the Dream”).
The plot of the anthology's stories is unknown, but according to initial information, each of them will in one way or another relate to historical moments in Hong Kong, starting from the 40s.
It is also unknown for sure whether there will be hand-to-hand combat in the film, but the names Sammo Hunga и Yuen Wu-Ping, it seems to us, this is not just the case.
Star cast names have appeared online: Simon Yam ("Bullet in the Head") Yuen Wa ("Eastern Condors") Timmy Hungg ("New Police Story"), Francis Ng ("Warriors' Gate") Lam Suet (“Showdown in the style of kung fu”), Chun Tat-Ming ("The Accidental Spy") Lawrence Lau (duology “Thunder Policemen”), Emotion Chun (“Chasing the Dream”) and Sir Ma (“Ip Man: Birth of a Legend”).
"Septet" will not wait for its premiere until 2021, but according to the site AFS, the film will debut at Cannes before the end of this year.
According to correspondent Boris Keith from Hollywood Reporter, filming of the sequel to the successful 2021 Cambodian action film will begin in early 2018 "Jail break", which introduced the viewer to a talented on-screen fighter Jean-Paul Lee.
