Yes, everything is exaggerated, and the Oscar is no longer what it used to be, in fact, it’s an ordinary film with a stupid plot, this is my personal opinion, you may not agree with me, but a bullet in the head of John Woo, although of a different genre, is really close to a masterpiece.

      Dave,

Everything is fine - the taste and color of the markers are different. "Crouching Tiger" and "Bullet in the Head" are different films, different genres. The first is a love drama in a wuxia setting, the second is a crime thriller.

I myself wrote that the film is of a different genre, I just wanted to give an example of a Chinese film, in my opinion, close to a masterpiece, namely Chinese, and all these flights through the air, unrealistic battles, false passions, and who the hell knows are not interesting at all.

          Dave,

Consider it a fairy tale. You’re not going to “smear” the battle between Ruslan and Zmey Gorynych in our fairy tale “Ruslan and Lyudmila” just because it doesn’t work, are you? ;)
But in general, yes: the taste and color... There are no “these” ones. ;)

And yet, this is a huge layer of genre cinema, which, in fact, made Hong Kong films popular in their time.

It’s already on the rutor in quality and with translation, but somehow I’m not drawn to watch it even despite the participation of excellent actors, I don’t like the genre of flying Chinese, by the way, the first film was g.....th.

          Dave,

          Why shit?

Because there was a shitty plot and flying Chinese and there were no normal battles and everyone didn’t understand why they saw a masterpiece from scratch.

            Dave,

Why did everyone see it? Well, perhaps because it really is a film close to a masterpiece. Everything else is a matter of taste. How do you feel about the flying Chinese? The plot for a series of wuxia novels about love and a mysterious sword is completely normal. And for a film that is more drama than action, there are enough quality fights. What is worth just the fight between Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi using numerous weapons. This fight still tops many thematic lists and tops.

The film was beautifully shot on location. The film has wonderful actors and they act very well. The editing and picture are all top notch. It's no joke - six Oscar nominations, and 4 statuettes in the film's treasury.

              DIV,

Agree! One of the few films where everything is good - the acting and the plot (whatever) and the cinematography and fights. Of course, they are not the same as, for example, those of Donnie Yen or Jackie Chan, but they are staged and worked out very well.
For me, it’s one of the few films that I watched not only because of the fights, when I found out that the director was Ang Lee.

“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2” is interesting only because of the participation of Donnie Yen and Jason Scott Lee, and “The Asian Connection” is not interesting at all, a cheap movie where apparently even Michael Jai White was not allowed to fight.
