January of the new year has already passed, and we are all summing up the results of action films for 2016. Today we propose to go through the following categories: Best Action Film, Best Blockbuster and Best Action Series.
Best action movie 2016
1st place: Deadpool (dir. Tim Miller)
2nd place: Captain America: Civil War (dir. E. Russo, D. Russo)
3rd place: Jason Bourne (dir. Paul Greengrass)
Oh, what a difficult nomination this is. And not because there is nothing to choose from, on the contrary! Each of the nominated films is worthy of attention because they are very good action films. Believe me, even those films that received 0 votes are worthy of your attention: Spanish "Toro", cruel "The Purge 3" or the long-awaited long-term construction "End of the day".
Well, two superhero films actively competed for first place in our voting: "Captain America: Civil War" и "Deadpool". For some reason the latter was not included in the nomination "Blockbuster 2016", but still won the fight against "Captain America", ahead of him by 3 votes (30% of the votes). And this is not surprising, because the director of the film Tim Miller and main actor Ryan Reynolds they did everything to ensure that the viewer did not get bored: they entertained us with humor, superhero and simply hand-to-hand action, while simultaneously providing a bunch of fan service within the R category.
Everything is clear with second place. "Confrontation" Russo brothers easily sits on two chairs and successfully chases two hares, shooting from both hands “Macedonian style”. Yes, the film also has quite a few opponents, but it’s hard to argue with the fact that the creators of the third “Captain” tried their best to turn a superhero comic into a rollicking action movie with shootouts, chases and hand-to-hand combat. It’s just a pity that superheroics blocked the way for good, but “mundane” action films: there are excellent classic action films on the list "Antigang" with Jean Reno and "Cool measures" with Idris Elba, and also a wonderful thriller "Blood Father" with Mel Gibson and remake "The Magnificent Seven" with Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Lee Byung-hun. But all these films did not even get 10 votes.
But it took exactly 11 votes to get "To Jason Bourne" in order to take third position in this vote. If we can talk about any kind of stability in action franchises, it’s about “Bornian”. Ageless Matt Damon still shoots accurately, throws assorted opponents with Krav Maga under a shaking camera, and also drives all types of wheeled vehicles. Everything is so stable that.....good. Third place from fans of action films on our site confirms this!
Blockbuster 2016

“Blockbuster of the Year” is such a dual nomination in which, despite a considerable number of representatives, it is difficult to rely on any specific criteria when choosing. Especially in the case when visitors to our site choose this or that film for the action. Specifically - hand-to-hand combat.
In this regard, the unconditional victory of the third film in the series "Captain America" or, as we are more accustomed to, "Captain America: Civil War", absolutely expected and predictable. Primarily due to the fact that quite a lot of time is devoted to action, including hand-to-hand combat, in this blockbuster. It seems that almost everyone was ready to fight hand-to-hand here: Captain America (Chris Evans), Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Black Panther (Çedvik Bowser) and many other superheroes. They gave a hand-to-hand scene and Frank Grillo, who performed well in the second film. Marvel Studios have found their niche in successful commercial superhero cinema, and “gold” in this category definitely indicates that people support the chosen path.
In the second place we expected to see anything, but not what turned out to be there. We are, of course, talking about a spin-off of the great space saga "Star Wars" called "Rogue One". It would seem, what does the Star Wars universe have to do with the theme of our site? Well, in the nomination "Martial Arts Short Film", for example, the first place was taken by a fan film based on this universe. So let's talk about a very good film that both critics and audiences liked. And for our brother there is something to see here, because one of the roles is played by Donnie *our everything* Ian. And here they give him a chance to fight, and shoot, and demonstrate the acting of a perhaps blind, but colorful character.
An honorable “bronze” with 14 votes (only 4 less than “Rogue One”) is occupied by another major project based on comics. This time DC Comics и "Batman v Superman". Many were waiting for the film and had high hopes for this blockbuster, but the film, as they say, did not work as expected. Yes, there are favorite characters, a long-awaited fight between superheroes and even a wonderful action at the end, but for almost 3 hours this “fantasy action movie” looked boring, since there were treacherously few action scenes in it. And yet the new “Batman” was held in higher esteem by the viewer than another film based on DC comics "Suicide Squad" (only 3 votes), as well as other high-profile blockbusters of the past year: "Warcraft" (7 votes), "Call of Heroes" (6 votes) and "X-Men: Apocalypse" (2 votes), despite the fact that they cannot be called outright bad and failures.
Action series 2016
1st place: Daredevil (season 2)
2nd place: Game of Thrones (season 6)
3rd place: Arrow (season 4)
In an era when comic book films are so popular among viewers, it is not surprising that two out of three places in this category are occupied by comic book series.
The second season of the series about the blind arbiter of justice "Daredevil" from Marvel и Netflix confidently started in the voting and immediately broke away from his rivals enough to confidently receive “gold”. It is worth saying that not only our viewers supported the series - many foreign publications call it one of the best action series in recent years. In addition, in the second season a very cool Punisher appeared, played by Jon Bernthal, despite the fact that the superhero Daredevil himself is played by Charlie Cox, also seriously matured and there were more hand-to-hand scenes with his character.
The sixth season took second place in the voting. "Game of Thrones", which, frankly speaking, put us in a kind of dead end. It’s not even the winning place in the voting, but the series’ participation in it. There is not much action in this now cult series, but the last two episodes of the sixth season firmly attracted attention due to the battle between the armies of two bastards. 19 votes and “silver” indicate that our viewers appreciated it.
Far behind the first two places (only 9 votes), season 4 "Arrows" from DC Comics placed in third position in this category. Stephen Amell still leads its story, quite well scattering enemies of different stripes. Well, the ratings of the series are still high, which means that the viewer likes it.
It's truly a shame that the second season of the series "Marco Polo" did not take any place, although it was only two votes behind Strela. An extremely good historical series contained many good scenes of hand-to-hand combat, for which, as a rule, they were responsible Tom Wu и Michelle Yeoh. In addition, it is definitely a pity that the second season for “Marco Polo” was the last - the series was closed. Well, the fact is that there are very cool shooting series "Banshee" и "Plastic Sea" received such a small percentage of votes, it only says one thing - they were simply not watched. But in vain. They are a must watch!
