Louis Fan in Steven Seagal's "Exhaustion", Alexander Nevsky's new project, Hiroyuki Sanada will star in "Westworld"

Despite a very prolific 2016 for the aging action hero Steven Seagal, the year 2017 is not so rich in films with the former Niko in the main or supporting role. Only one film with Seagal's participation has been released this year - an action movie. "Chinese Seller". By the way, if for some reason you missed the review of films with Steven Seagal over the past year, you can follow the links to read first и the second part of the review.

However, 65-year-old Seagal does not allow himself to relax. Today, a film called attrition (“Exhaustion”), a plot for which Stephen wrote many years ago under the influence of samurai imperishables Akira Kurasawa. Previously we have already covered this project, which was to be directed by Seagal himself. But in the end a Frenchman ended up in the director's chair Mathieu Weschler, previously marked by militants "Garbage man" (2010) and "Covert Operation" (2012). Seagal co-wrote the script with a famous journalist, screenwriter and researcher Let's beat Logan ("Lady Bloody Fight") and the film's producer Philippe Martinez ("Waking Death")

Stills from the movie "Attrition."

"Exhaustion" is the story of a special forces leader named Ax, who is in search of a missing Thai girl with mythical powers.

The big news for action movie fans is the addition of a martial artist and actor to the cast Luisa Fanya (“The Story of Ricky”, “Ip Man 1-2”, “Ip Man: Birth of a Legend”) and action film actor Yu Kana (“Sword Bearers”, Special Person”, “Ice Comet 3D”). In addition to Seagal and Chinese actors, the film stars: Rudy Youngblood ("Apocalypse"), Vithaya Pansringram ("Ninja 2"), Cha-Li Yoon (“One million k(l)iks”), James P. Bennett (“Finish them all”), as well as a famous Russian athlete, public figure and actor Sergey Badyuk (“Gogol. The Beginning”).

There is no word yet on when to expect the film's release. However, it's unlikely we'll see Attrition in 2017. Most likely, we will also not see other previously canceled projects by Steven Seagal: "Shooter", "Deadly Arsenal", "Under Siege 3", "Paid to Death" and Albert Pyun's unfinished construction "Rise of the Cyborgs".

Without waiting for the premiere of his new film "Maximum Impact" and decline in enthusiasm for "Showdown in Manila", famous Russian figure and actor Alexander Nevsky told reporters that he was going to start a new project called Savage Attack.

The upcoming film will tell the story of an American military man with Russian roots who goes to Asia to save his former partner.

Alexander promised that in his new film he would combine such hits as "Raid" и "13th district". Alexander also said that the Indonesian stunt team that worked on “Raids” will do the stunts.

It has not yet been announced who will direct the film. However, it is already known that Alexander will be accompanied on screen by heroes of action films of the past - Ralf Möller ("Cyborg", "Universal Soldier") and Matthias Hughes (“Angel of Darkness”, “Lonely Tiger”), and filming will take place in Indonesia and Thailand.

Production on the film is expected to begin at the end of this year. We will keep an eye on the project.

Famous Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada, who has been working in Hollywood for the last 15 years, will take part in the second season of the popular sci-fi series "Westworld" (Westworld), produced by the cable channel HBO.

Sanada-san, well known to action film fans for his participation in Japanese and Chinese action films in the 80s and 90s, has long been considered a dramatic actor. Hiroyuki also calls himself an actor of serious roles. However, the action past sometimes catches up with the actor, reminding him and the audience that the Japanese is no stranger to martial arts. Sanada was especially good at samurai roles. However, the last time Hiroyuki engaged in hand-to-hand combat was in 2007 against Jackie Chan in film "Rush Hour 3", the Japanese held a sword on screen relatively recently - in the second season of the science fiction series "Spiral" (2014-2015).

Well, there is a possibility that Sanada will again embody the image of a samurai on television, since at the end of the first season "Westworld" a clear hint was given that the next season could be about an amusement park simulating medieval Japan with its samurai and geisha. We hope that Hiroyuki Sanada will have some kind of meaningful and action role. In any case, we would like to see Sanada again with a samurai sword in his hands.

In addition, information has emerged that Sanada has joined the cast of the upcoming superhero blockbuster based on Marvel comics "Avengers: Infinity War" brothers Anthony and Joe Russo. The film is scheduled to hit theaters in 2018. It is still unknown who the Japanese actor will play. It is also unknown in which part Hiroyuki will take part, since Infinity War is conceived as a duology.

We just have to wait and keep our finger on the pulse. And if you have forgotten who Hiroyuki Sanada is, we invite you to watch a video dedicated to his “combat” acting career.

In general, of course, Hiroyuki Sanada deserves a separate review on this site. I don’t know Japanese cinema very well, but if in the 1960s there were Toshiro Mifune and Tatsuya Nakadai, in the 1970s Sony Chiba and Yasuaki Kurata, then in the 1980s and probably even the 1990s it was definitely Hiroyuki Sanada. Now? I don't even know. Nowadays in Japanese cinema everyone knows how to fight, I can’t single out anyone in Hong Kong or China.

In "Salesman", Seagal is about the same as Tyson in the same "Salesman" and "Ip Man", where I was already his devoted fan, but I stopped watching who he turned into and what he played in. About the samurai project, it seems that this is the same deception and fake as the Kazakh film with Jackie Chan, Schwarzenegger and so on. I don’t believe in its existence and the likelihood of it ever appearing on screens. Well, Sanada, well, I’m surprised that now he’s still a mystery to someone. As far as I know, he is one of the most talented and successful protégés of Sonya Chita’s project, an incredibly charismatic and talented actor, but so close to real martial arts, like Jason Statham, that this is by no means a disadvantage. It's just that in Asia everyone knows how to fight in movies, just like in India everyone knows how to dance

      Dmitriy,

What kind of Kazakh film with Jackie Chan and Schwerzenegger?

After all, Sanada fought on the screen even after Rush Hour 3. For example, in the movie Wolverine is immortal

      Luke Cage,

It cannot be said that there was full-fledged hand-to-hand combat in "Wolverine".

I remember when I was little, in the 90s, they even showed 2 Japanese films with Sanada on television. The first film was "Ninja Swords" or "Shogun's Ninja" and the second was "Roaring Fire". I didn’t even know the actor’s name then, I only remembered his appearance...

They just opened my eyes to Sanada. But I previously compared him with Kosugi and Tagawa as the least combative actor.
