Hollywood remake of "The Raid", Steven Seagal's new film and the fate of Mark Dacascos' Ultimate Justice

The fact that Dream Factory has acquired the rights to a remake of the Indonesian hit action film "Raid", became known back in 2014. However, active work on the project did not begin, screenwriters, producers and directors changed, and who was supposed to get the main role was completely unclear.

But then there was news that the Hollywood “Raid” had been given the green light. Information about this was spread by an athlete and actor Frank Grillo (“Captain America: Civil War,” the series “Kingdom”), who said that he had been appointed as the director of the film Joe Carnahan ("Smoking Aces", "Team A"). He is also the producer and screenwriter of the future action film.

Carnahan himself immediately responded on Twitter:

The remake of "The Raid" will be closer in atmosphere and tone to "The Scramble" (2011 Carnahan thriller) and "Drug lord" (2002 Carnahan Detective). Gareth Evans is producing the film and has given us his full blessing. This is not a remake. This is a reimagining. Let's all take a deep breath - we won't disappoint you.

Previously director of the original duology Gareth Evans talked about what he wants to see in the main roles of the remake "Reida" such stars of the hand-to-hand action genre as Scott Adkins и Michael Jai White, however, he also considered other stars: Chris Hemsworth ("Thor 1-2") and Liam Hemsworth ("The Expendables 2"), Luke Evans ("Dracula") Anthony Mackie ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier"), Ethan Hawke ("Good Kill") and Taylor Kitsch (“Particularly dangerous”).

However, the leading role still went to Frank Grillo, who has several films planned for 2017: military action "War of the Wolves 2", where Frank played the main negative role, fantastic action "Skyline 2", where Grillo got the main positive role and a crime thriller "The Jekyll Island Conspiracy" starring Maggie Q.

According to unofficial data, Hollywood "Raid" should begin filming this summer. Nothing more is known about the project yet. We'll keep you posted.

The new film by Seagal and Surgos is called Paid on Death (“Paid to Death”?) and is a spy action movie in genre. The film is about a mysterious government agent nicknamed “The Killer” (or Assassin), who, on orders from higher-ranking military officers, carries out contract killings of people too dangerous for society and the government regime. But when the protagonist realizes that he is now the target, the Killer will have to find out who put him in danger before it is too late.

The film is still in the early stages of production, but you and I know how quickly films with Steven Seagal are made. By the way, besides him, the cast includes Luke Goss ("Death Race 2-3") and Robert LaSardo ("Some Justice") However, who will play the main role is still unknown.

When you look at the list of films Seagal has planned for 2017, your head is spinning: action «Chinese traveling salesman" starring Mike Tyson, mysterious "Shooter" Chuck Hastmeyer, duet with Dolph Lundgren "Deadly Arsenal", as well as Seagal's directorial work "Exhaustion" and Albert Pyun's unfinished construction "Rise of the Cyborgs". And this is only from confirmed projects.

Hollywood remake of "The Raid", Steven Seagal's new film and the fate of Mark Dacascos' Ultimate Justice

Good news for B-action fans from the once popular Mark Dacascos - a German long-term construction project called Ultimate Justice (“Final Justice”?) was nevertheless purchased by a distribution company for a limited theatrical release in the United States and a digital release of the film.

Мы already wrote about the film, which was filmed back in 2015 with the support of an independent film company Silent Partners Mike Leader, who played one of the main roles in the film. By the way, the same company is responsible for the production of the film “One million k(l)iks” Mike Moeller.

The synopsis of the action movie is not trivial: this is a story about a team of former elite warriors, whose friendship is forged in battles and secret operations. And when the no longer young special forces soldiers thought that they had safely retired, the family of one of them was kidnapped. And in order to bring back their relatives, the strength of the friendship of people who have known pain and suffering in dangerous missions is again tested. The war line has already been drawn and it is awaiting final justice.

In addition to Mark Dacascos, the film starred not the last people for an action movie: Matthiaz Hughes ("No Retreat, No Surrender 2"), Mike Moeller (“One million k(l)iks”), Mike Leader ("Pound of Flesh") Wolfgang Rihm (“Special squad “Cobra”) and others. In the director's chair of the action movie is Martin Bode, and the German martial arts genius Mike Möller is responsible for all the action in the film.

According to Mike Leader, the film has been acquired for distribution by Vision Films, which promises to release the action film during 2017. Sorry, there is no exact date yet. But there is a new trailer. We provide it to you.

There is something too much action in the Ultimate justice trailer, and Dacascos is relegated to the background here in the trailer, which cannot be said about Möller

This is probably due to the fact that Dacascos is already 50, and it is unlikely that he will be able to show what he did 20 years ago, and Meslier is young and can do a lot, so he is in the foreground.

Dave, for some reason I can’t immediately google Möller’s date of birth, but he, apparently, is already about forty. Not that young.
And Donnie Yen is the same age as Mark, but he still shows a lot in his films.

          Wave,

Ian doesn’t show anything in films now that Dacascos couldn’t show, despite the fact that it’s not very correct to compare them, they have different styles and different approaches. It all depends on the director, the production, the editing and the cables.

          Wave,

Well, if the film positions itself as an advertisement for “Möller,” like “Special Forces” once did for Adkins, then fine. However, after “From Cradle to Grave” Dacascos should have switched from a purely acting role a long time ago. I never really understood why he was so underrated. He knows how to play. Well, okay, the main thing is that at 50 he is still good.

Again, all the slag will be removed (I'm talking about the Raid). Hollywood simply CANNOT make films like this

      Lindolion,

Why? What is there in Raids that the dream factory can't reproduce? Well, they will replace silat with something else. Everything else there is quite a standard movie that can be remade in the West.

          Wave,

Well, regarding the uncompromising, this is quite possible. There was Dredd. It’s not a fact that it will happen, since there is a possibility of failure at the box office, but they may well play with cruelty. The hand-to-hand action will just be different, more Hollywood-esque. But this is not a copy of the original, but a re-interpretation.

    Meller is somehow over-the-top...

Finally, Dacascos was allowed to fight, judging by the action video in Ultimate Justice, everything will be fine, but time will tell whether the film will be watchable.
