Capoeira: the first knockout in MMA history

Fight between Marcus “Lelo” Aurelio и Keegan Marshall took place on April 4, 2009 in North Vancouver. For the first time in history MMA the opponent was knocked out with a classic move that capoeira called “meia lua”, and only at the 20th second.

Marcus “Lelo” Aurelio (Marcus "Lelo" Aurelio) was born in the city of Recife in northeastern Brazil. He began training capoeira at the age of 3 under the guidance of his father, Masters of Barrao. Since then, he concentrated his attention only on study and training. At the age of 9, he moved with his parents to Canada, where he continued to train and began performing in various shows, school performances and festivals, starred in several films, advertisements, and also participated in the creation of games (motion capture).

In 2000 in Brazil he won second place in the international competitions capoeira, and not so long ago won an international competition “Axe Capoeira”.

  • Note: The peculiarity of the style of capoeira that Barrao preaches is a tough fighting technique, which includes both close and medium-range combat, as well as real wrestling, and without the slightest hint of rules. Other schools place more emphasis on dancing, acrobatics, or performing “tricks”—beautiful elements that are useless from a fighter’s point of view. Capoeiristas of Master Barrao’s school do not focus on “tricks,” perhaps because the ability to make beautiful elements alone is not enough to consider, let alone call, oneself a capoeirista.

First knockout in MMA history. I should have added “and the last one.”

Latest news about Lelo: he already has 6 wins and one loss. And he recently signed a contract with Bellator. The fight is scheduled for August 24, the name of the opponent is not yet known. Let's see how he shows himself there.

Years are enough, but what don’t you understand in my text?

I counted nine errors in two lines of your previous comment. Did you also study Russian in Brazil with Lelo?

I have been doing capoeira for 10 years, training in Brazil. I took a seminar with Lelo, he’s a very cool guy.
Trained capoeira is a very scary thing.
(it just takes a long time to train!)

How old are you? Judging by the text, it's eleven... No offense...

How about this - Bico de Papagaio (aka Beija Flor, Au Batido, Amazonas, Au Malandro, etc.) performed by the Statue of Liberty

“So, the guys had this level of training (as I understand it, you weren’t fighting with Brazilians, who have been practicing the combat version of capoeira since they were 3 years old)…”

Well that's clear. Well, we are not MMA professionals either. Those. the level is the same.
And I declare with all responsibility that yes, there are no bad styles and no good ones, it all depends on the person, BUT!... there are styles with very low efficiency, suitable only for certain conditions/opponents/styles. And all other things being equal (experience, age, physical condition, etc.) a capoeira adept is a walking sack.

The button was written correctly, and capoeira was APPLICABLE, it would have long been USED in the cage and in the training process. And so, oh and alas - no one really needs it because it is not BI, but the appearance of it.

You're right, but only partially. Acrobatic elements of capoeira never hurt...

I’m even afraid to imagine a capo with a sharpened skate on one leg. It would have been a natural slasher... (just kidding)

First knockout in MMA history. I should have added "and the last one". This is not a fight, this is a circus, Marshall didn’t even have time to answer while he was swinging, where did this “fighter” even come from, look at his statistics, it’s funny. He would even lose to himself if he was alone in the ring. Aurelio's statistics also don't shine at all - every first serious opponent and a loss.

    Powerful macaque!
No, I know what it is. This will be a mini-cartoon about the master monkey from Kung Fu Panda! High quality poster! ))))))))) (joke, isesna.)

Capoeiristas from Brazil have a bad manner for their opponents...they mix mouth guards with jiu-jitsu and the result is a great mixture =D

      Author's gravatar

And in Brazil there are “a lot of wild monkeys” :D

      Monkey kicker

The monkey is Chinese, not Brazilian, of course.

Yes, this video has already been “dragged” on all the budofums.
Either it was a setup or an accident. There is a small chance that this is true, but even then it is the exception that proves the rule: capoeira is dancing, not BI.

I remember back in my student days, when I was doing hand-to-hand combat and kicking, we had a match meeting with a capo using mixed rules. The result was disastrous: knockouts for almost all the capos. Only those who constantly ran from us did not fly away from the ring)))))

      knockouts for almost all capos

This means that the guys had this level of training (as I understand, you weren’t fighting with Brazilians, who have been practicing the combat version of capoeira since they were 3 years old)...

IMHO, in this particular case, the Brazilian was helped by the ropes (i.e. limitation of space) and, apparently, Marshall's inexperience.

      2 p0n41g: If I'm not mistaken, about 80 kg.

There was a guy in jeans from his team waving, so it was normal.

Hit it juicy! But if you look at the one who has huddled in a corner, then he seems to be a loser. Well, at least he made the capoeirista famous)) It’s true that he will last for a long time)

I also saw a video, where some taekwondo player slapped a Thai guy with such a turntable, and he immediately fell ill. It doesn’t happen once in a while. These tricks don’t always work. Although who knows, maybe they are as sharpened as 2 fingers on asphalt =)

I wanted to say they kicked me under the bench

    Author's gravatar

Boxers don't wear gloves either, so what???? only masters of sports were kicked on the bench with both legs........

    Author's gravatar

He hid in a corner, dropped his hands - this was by no means an accident.

    Author's gravatar

    Mestre Poison,

What would it have to do with getting hit in the ear? What I mean is that in their clothes, outside the ring, these so-called fighters don’t wave their legs like that.

    Author's gravatar

how much does this guy weigh????

    Author's gravatar

    >>>CezaR
I would get hit in the ear once and forget about the show. In general, carpet bombing rules, not a single capuer will help)))))

    Author's gravatar

You can't dance like that on the street in jeans... It's all just for show, but there's minimal benefit.
