“Champion”: Muay Thai as a way to get out on parole

It is said that this is a fairly long-standing Eastern tradition: to release a prisoner who has shown excellent martial arts skills. It originated back in 1767, during the next Siamese-Burmese war, when the kingdom of Ayutthaya fell. And now it is practiced in Thai prisons, where Muay Thai championships are held among prisoners, and the main prize is release.

Gary Scott Thompson, who wrote the scripts for the first two films of the Fast and the Furious epic, composed a not very original story about an American who took a crooked path to a Thai prison. Yes, yes, everything is exactly as you might think: this same American in prison begins to master Thai boxing in order to participate in the tournament and break free.

Of course, “Champion” is by no means a hundred-million-dollar project on the level of “Fast and Furious.” But it’s by no means a micro-budget movie of the “Be” category. The project is being developed by very serious producers from very serious companies. Storyscape Entertainment и Pioneer Pictures. In particular, Storyscape Entertainment currently has films in production such as “The War Magician” with Benedict Cumberbatch and “FBI Wedding” with Jason Bateman.

But the most interesting thing, of course, is who will be cast in the main role. For a serious project you need a really good actor, who also has fighting skills. Maybe they’ll still think of calling Warren Brown? ..

Why don’t you tell me exactly Warren Brown?
Somehow I just know him as a good actor with good physical shape... I haven’t seen any films with him...
Let's say Tom Hardy, Antony Starr, Chiwetel Ejiofor or even Christian Bale)) - it would be clearer))...

      Alex,
Warren Brown was a world champion in Thai boxing before becoming an actor. Twice.
True, he is English, not American, but this is nothing.

        Thanks - I didn't know).
And yet this past is nowhere to be seen, strangely enough for the guy...
And the actor is really good! I saw his mini series about a policeman.

However, the same Ejiofor, except in the “Red Belt,” practically never showed his Jiu-Jitsu skills (and he has them))).
And Starr is nowhere to be seen except in the cult “Banshee”...
