We don’t know about you, but we are ready to traditionally begin summing up the results of action films for 2018! If you are new to this site, know: we have already done this in 2016 и 2017 year!
Despite the fact that some expected films have not been released this year (hello, "Triple Threat", "Alita: Battle Angel", "Countdown", "Invulnerable Dragon", "Full of Love" etc.), 2018 was very fruitful for our specialized genre. This is especially true for independent and fan works. As always, we will actively begin summing up the results in November, with which you, fans of action films, will, of course, help us.
Traditionally, summing up will take place in three stages:
Stage one. Proposal of nominees.
This year we are launching a list of nominations early, in each of which visitors to our website will be able to offer one or more options. Preferably with an explanation of why this particular option was chosen.
Stage two. Vote.
After the maximum number of options has been collected during the first stage, towards the end of the year we will post voting on the website for several nominations at once. You can vote for your favorite option.
Stage three. Article analytics.
After receiving the voting results for all nominations, we will post analytical articles about the top three for each of them on the website fight-films.info.

Example: “Rebel 2” for how Tiger Shroff beautifully exterminated the villains in the jungle and now we don’t even need the Bollywood “Rambo”!

– this category offers genre films that focus on historical and fantasy action, including hand-to-hand combat.
Example: “Genghis Khan” - we have never seen such a story about a great commander!

– this category offers films in which martial arts are presented as sports or semi-sports disciplines framed by a dramatic plot.

Example: “Jessica Jones” - season two - this snub-nosed girl continues to give out boobs to everyone left and right!

– this category offers actors of combat and action films who returned to filming after a long absence from the screens or played a significant role after a long period of secondary and faded roles.
Example: Joe Taslim - back this year with a badass mess and kicking Uwais's own ass!

Martial arts film 2018 - “The Night Follows Us” (dir. Timo Tjadjanto, Indonesia), the domestic “Skif” was very pleased with the atmosphere and (on topic) knife fights (special respect to Sasha Kuznetsov)
Blockbuster 2018 - “Upgrade” (dir. Leigh Whannell, Australia), I’ll add that “Mission: Impossible: Fallout” is good
Best Screen Fight 2018 - Representing amateurs in BI. The opening scene of “The Spy Who Dumped Me” with Justin Theroux really impressed me with the production. I agree - Taslim - Weiss in "The Night Is Coming..." was on fire, the fight between Cruise and Cavill against Young in the last "Mission" in the toilet was filmed very well.
Best action movie 2018 - "Avengers: Infinity War", I note the domestic "F.O.T.O.G.R.A.F." Maxima Fashchenko (!)
Independent martial arts film 2018 - "Test Buy" (dir. Erik Matti, Philippines) with WWE fighter Anne Curtis.
Best Action Film Actor 2018 - Scott Adkins for "Collectors", where he tries to play drama and sometimes fails.

Disappointment of the year - "Black Waters" (really - disappointed expectations)
Asian action movie 2018 - definitely "The Night Follows Us"
Short film with martial arts 2018 - "Fetch" by Daniel Bernhard from a good analogy "Blood, sweat and horror"
Historical, fantasy or wuxia film 2018 - “Black 47th” (dir. Lance Daly, Ireland) homage to “Rambo” in the historical setting of 19th century Ireland. Very good interesting, good movie.

Comeback of the year - Joe Taslim finally showed his full strength. He's really good as an actor.
The most anticipated film of 2019 is “Vengeance” by D. Johnson with Scott Adkins (they have a good duet, no worse than with Florentine), “War of the Wolves 3” with D. Wu (I am a fan of this film series))); "Ip Man 4"; "Triple Threat", "John Wick 3" and "Avengers: Endgame" of course!

I give my vote for this film, since it is the best thing that those who make and appear in films about martial arts have produced this year. Excellent actors, there is a story, British humor and sufficient drive.
Blockbuster 2018 - Avengers: War of Infinity
In second place is "Deadpool 2" - it can't compete with "The Avengers", but an award like Best Character or Comedy of the Year could easily take me

For the atmosphere, chases, stunts and fight scenes. Well, you must admit that when an action film without excessive fantasy and comic-stuff makes it to the big screens, it is worth a lot and gives hope for the survival of the action film as a pure genre.
I also want to mention Sicario 2. A wonderful film, I really hope for the third part.

I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't watched it yet. After the first 10 minutes of viewing you will not be able to tear yourself away. The British made a masterpiece of a thriller.

Dolph Lundgren
Dolph returned in the Imagine Dragons - Believer video, but otherwise there are enough promo photos in Aquaman and glimpses in the Creed trailer. I just can't be happier.
2019's most anticipated film of the year
Captain Marvel, Terminator 6, Avengers 4, Triple Threat, Joker, Big Brother, Master Z: Legacy of Ip-Man
Actually, I think the best independent one is “Blindsided” by Eric Jacobus (45 minutes is not a short film anymore, huh?). And the best short film is probably “Construct” by Kevin Margot, because the rest were not impressive. However, “Do no harm” also stands out and is worthy of the nomination (by the way, on Vimeo the title is “…no harm” and not “…not harm”).
Plus the enthusiasm for “Upgrade” and not so much enthusiasm, the film is far from “Raids”, but in general “The Night Follows Us” is a step forward compared to “Headshot”.
Oh, yes, a complete disappointment - “Re:Born”. Based on the promotional materials, it seemed that there would be something unusual, but in reality Sakaguchi was moving there in an artificial and therefore very uncomfortable manner. But it’s like a secret and unknown style, yes.
Martial arts movie 2018 - "Re-Born" - the film literally consists of one action.
Best Screen Fight 2018 - So Sakaguchi vs Yoshitaka Inagawa. "Re-Born" is a rather original fight with an unusual technique.
Best action movie 2018 - "Assassin 2" - realistic and brutal.
Best Action Film Actor 2018 - So Sakaguchi. In 2 hours, he managed to demonstrate a simply fantastic variety of ways to send opponents to the next world. Arms, legs, handle, sapper shovel, kama, karambit - all this is used with particular cruelty.
Disappointment of the year - "Ant-Man and the Wasp" is one of the worst and dullest Marvel films.
Asian Action 2018 - "Re-Born". What can I say...you just have to see it.
Independent martial arts film 2018 - “Collectors” is one of the best collaborations between Scott Adkins and Jesse Johnson. It’s a paradox, but I want to praise Adkins not for his fights, but for his acting.
2019's most anticipated film of the year - "Triple threat." The cast of this film speaks for itself.
Martial arts film 2018 – The Night Follows Us – it seems like this is a simple low-budget Asian film, but it was filmed honestly, with soul, one might say, with aggressive hand-to-hand scenes, without regard to sterile Hollywood))) Memorable characters, there is an individual edged weapon, a verified choreography of hand-to-hand scenes with blood and cruelty, which fans appreciated! Blockbuster 2018 - Avengers Infinity War - the Marvel film surprised with its drama and memorable main character in the person of Thanos. I didn't expect this from a typical summer comic book blockbuster.
The best screen fight of 2018 - Joe Taslim and Iko Yuwais in The Night Follows Us - demonstrates the capabilities of the main characters - pencak silat and judo are shown performed by two actor-athletes who know a lot about martial arts.

22 miles - a shaky camera in hand-to-hand scenes, Yuvays is a Belarusian))), they didn’t let Ronda Rousey fight (((why was she invited to the project then? And there’s too much “like cool” Mark Wahlberg in the film... A passable Hollywood action movie for one time...

Bi movie 2018 - Upgrade. The fights there were simply great.

Best Screen Fight - Upgrade. GG against the very first criminal. This is how it turns out that the best fight of the year ended up in a film that is not directly related to action films.
