Director of a recent sci-fi action film "Skyline 2" Liam O'Donnell after a fairly good release, I decided to make a film about Indonesia, and specifically about the martial art of this country - silat.
O'Donnell was probably prompted to this idea by filming "Skyline" in Indonesia and famous actors of action films from this country - stars of the duology "Raid" Iko Uwais и Yayan Ruhian. Anyway, Liam conceived, wrote the script and put into pre-production a film called "The Last Savage" (The Last Savage). The creator himself describes the upcoming film as “a cinematic love letter to the adventures of Tarzan in the post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max, where the evil beauty of the martial art of silat rules.”
If we talk about the plot, then "The Last Savage" will tell the story of a boy lost on an island who was “raised” by tigers. But the hunters killed his family and took the boy to the arena where the most desperate fighters of the dying world fight.
Since the film is still in development, no details, including casting information, are available yet. But we are sure that familiar names will still appear in The Last Savage. All that remains is to wait.
Filipino director Pedrin Lopez, who may be known for films such as "Creatures" (2015) and "A dark room" (2017), is preparing his hand-to-hand project - a thriller called "Maria" (Maria).
The main role in the film will be played by Cristina Reyes (“Trophy,” “Gifted”), who will play a former national security agent recruited by the cartel to eliminate business targets. For many years she did her job cleanly and, having decided to give up crime, agreed to the latest case. However, she was unable to kill her latest target, and now the cartel is hunting her.
In addition to Christina, the film stars an actor and a stuntman Jermaine De Leon (TV series "Lucifer") Meg Imperial (“Creatures”), and Sonny Sisa ("Broken Path"), who also did the fight choreography in Lopez's film.
Because the, "Maria" is already in the post-production stage, we have to admit that the expected hand-to-hand action thriller from Pedrin Lopez Breach с Mark Dacascos и Dan Southworth starring, shelved. We can only hope that the director will take up the project immediately after “Maria”.
The film is due out in 2018. However, there is no exact release date or even a trailer yet.
Film director and actor Len Kabasinsky (“Curse of the Wolf”, “Vampire’s Fist”) decided on his new independent project, which will be the debut for his newly formed company Killerwolf Films.
The upcoming independent film is called Challenge Of The Five Gauntlets (we are still at a loss as to how this can be easily translated into Russian) and the genre is an action-adventure film, which involves such notable names for action cinema as Bolo Yen ("Bloody sport"), Shannon Lee (“Lessons for an Assassin”) and Leo Fong ("Blind fury").
The story follows a desperate family who have exhausted all available options to help their seriously ill child. But the relic hunter Kane appears in their lives, and is now their last hope. He, being an adventurer and a talented fist fighter, must find a certain mysterious artifact “Buddha’s Tooth”, which can heal the child.
What Len Kabasinsky, who has the main role in this project, will do with such a squad of very aged action heroes of the past is absolutely unclear. But a crowdfunding company has already been launched on IndieGoGothat you can support with a pretty penny, if the project interests you.

Famous fighting games are chronically unlucky in their film adaptations. No matter how hard the filmmakers try to approach them, they still can’t turn out to be a stone flower. And we can say this with confidence and sadness: there is no fighting game that would stand firmly on its feet on film or television screens. Even web series based on such serious universes with a huge fan base as "Mortal Kombat" и "Street Fighter" turned off. What can we say about the less popular Tekken, King of Fighters, Dead or Alive and others.
However, given the popularity of the series, the situation may change. According to Deadline, fighting game Street Fighter, which has already gone through quite a few film adaptations, is going to be turned into a full-fledged television series. The showrunner of the future (hopefully) series is Mark Gordon (“Saving Private Ryan”, “The Day After Tomorrow”, “Source Code”) and his company Entertainment One (TV series “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Criminal Minds” and others).
The good news is that the team responsible for, perhaps, the best adaptation of the game - the web series - has been appointed to the position of executive producers. Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist и Street Fighter: Resurrection.
If you believe foreign sources, the plot of the future TV show will finally start over and its source will be the game Street Fighter II: The World Warrior Released in 1991. The main characters of the series will be the characters Ryu, Ken, Guile and Chun Li, who will try to stop M. Bison and his henchmen from taking his criminal organization “Shadaloo” to the world level. But the heroes end up in a tournament organized by Bison in order to identify the toughest fighter in the world.
TV show called Street Fighter: The World Warrior does not yet have a cast, and we hope that the cast and stunt cast of the Internet series will migrate to the silver screen. At least, Mike Mo (Ryu) and Chris Howard (Ken) deserve it.
The launch date of the series and the channel on which it will be broadcast have not yet been specified.
