The Legend of King Naresuan has had its funding cut

The third and fourth parts of the Thai historical epic called “The Legend of King Naresuan” from director Chatrichalerma Yukola will receive only 100 million baht from the Ministry of Culture instead of 46 million baht.

Initial finance amountallocated for the filming of the film, caused a protest from independent directors, among whom was the winner of the Palme d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Culture Minister Thira Slukpetch said after the meeting that the funding reduction was approved after learning that the Ministry of Commerce allocated 330 million baht for the third and fourth parts of Naresuan.

The remaining 54 million baht will go back into the Ministry of Culture's budget and can be distributed among some of the 246 submitted projects left without funding, or added to the funds allocated to the 48 approved projects.
