Short films Honor, Gambit – Play For Keeps, Silverback, Midnight Ransom, Mask and Fist of Fury

As we have already said in some of our materials, the Covid-19 virus pandemic has frozen film production around the world. This is sad. However, the same pandemic “gave” time to finalize those projects that had been lying in an endless drawer.

Honour

One of these was a short action film called "Honor", which was filmed back in 2017 by the independent film director Glen Harris (“Switch”) And now, 3 years later, the film has finally become available.

"Honor" is a story as old as time about revenge for a murdered wife. The main character, who carefully hid his past, finds his murdered loved one and swears revenge on the mercenaries who did it.

The main role in the film was played by the actor Mike Carr (“Give them wings”), and played the role of the central villain Martin Daniel Smith (“Switch”)

Gambit – Play For Keeps

The following short film is based on the famous Marvel comics character Gambit. Moreover, in fact this film is a continuation of the short film "Gambit" 2017. The main role in both films was played by the actor Nick Bateman (“Mind Reader”, “Bum with a Shotgun”, “Pimp Code”).

The new film, like the previous one, was directed by Jensen Noen, who may be known for his dark detective "Premonition" (2018) with the same Bateman in the title role.

In the next story about Gambit, we will be told about a new task, in which the superhero will have to play a deadly game of poker.

Besides Nick Bateman, the film featured: Anna Butkevich (TV series "Lie to Me") Glen Baggerly (“Rob the loot”), Gene Freeman (“Collectors”), Eric Roberts (“The Expendables”) and other actors.

The action and stunt coordination in the film was handled by someone we knew from some short films. Shahoub Rudbari.

Well, it’s worth noting that Bateman really suits the image of the famous comic book character. Maybe Hollywood producers will think about a Gambit solo album with his participation...?

Silverback

Another long-term construction project from a creative association Rising Tiger Filmsfinally reached a wide audience, “walking” around independent film festivals for a whole year and receiving all kinds of awards.

Film director Leroy Nguyen (TV series “My Asian Aunt”) and his team filmed the film for six years in parallel with his other important project - a full-length thriller "Black Scar Blues" (2017). That is why Silverback It was customary to make it a short film.

The 40-minute black and white story follows a desperate man who returns to an abandoned city to discover and accept the brutal truth about his own past.

Besides Leroy Nguyen, who not only directed the film, but also wrote the script, choreographed the fight and played the lead role, the short film featured: Jasmine Hyun (“Fight Hero Absolute”), Joseph Le (“Flush”), Ron Suriopas ("Shenmue") Madi Eltigani (“Black Scar Blues”) and others.

Midnight Ransom

There is also a good hand-to-hand short film in our selection from France, namely from those guys who released a short film based on a computer game back in 2015 Deus Ex Machina – stuntmen and freerunners Thomas Lorber и Maxime Coulomb.

The plot of the film is not clever - it is another story of revenge for a murdered wife. But the hand-to-hand fight in the underground parking lot between Lorber and Coulon looks very cool.

Mask

The following short film comes from India and belongs to an aspiring freerunner and stuntman Raoul Mina, which, in fact, filmed some kind of action-reel with a simple plot.

Judging by the list of stuntmen employed in the video, they are all one way or another relatives of Raoul :)

Well, we have seen better choreography in Indian short films, but let the video find its place in our selection today.

When You Watch Too Much Bruce Lee

When the stunt team MartialClub releases new sketches or short films - we're all ears!

This time the guys pleased us with two films at once. The first is a humorous sketch traditional for their YouTube channel.

Andy Le plays himself, and, instead of getting busy with work, Le constantly watches films with the legendary Bruce Lee and repeats the movements after him. However, when the boy starts having problems with the owner of the apartment, he cannot discern what is reality or fiction.

As often happens, Andy Le confronts his teammates - Brian Le и Daniel Ma.

Fist Of Fury

Rђ RІRѕS, "Fist of fury" is already a more serious film, albeit a direct reference to the legendary film Bruce Lee.

Andy Le plays Chen Zhen, who comes to the Japanese dojo for revenge. In this way, the guys expressed their respect for the films with Bruce and all Hong Kong cinema of the 70s, introducing, of course, elements of new choreography and tricking, without which MartialClub is difficult to imagine.

In addition to endless extras, Andy will have to confront a Japanese general played by Brian Le.

Traditionally, in cases with films from the Le brothers, we warn: be sure to watch the film to the end, because the guys always make the credits in the spirit of old films Jackie Chan, demonstrating unsuccessful takes.

"Gonor" is incredibly dull, not worth wasting your time on.
“Gambit” was shot coolly like a short film, with a blockbuster twist, with colorful characters, but there is only about five minutes of action out of twenty minutes, and it doesn’t inspire. Decide for yourself.
I didn’t watch “Silverback” - I was lazy. Yes, clicked. It's set to be a noir, the first half hour is some kind of dull tryst and, apparently, an attempt at drama, then a short fight and again an attempt at drama or whatever. In short, it's bullshit.
Watch Midnight Ransom from the second half, the first half will break your face. But in the second there is an average-not-bad fight. Choreographic, not realistic, but who was embarrassed and when?
“The Mask” amused me. The short film is almost of the courtyard level, but there is something so touching in it. And yes, this is banter about Covid.
Andy Le is great as always. No - great! And “Revisiting Bruce Lee” and “Fist of Fury.”
