Corey Yuen oversees kung fu TV movies

Thanks to information from the site Deadline, it became known that the classic of Chinese combat cinema Corey Yuen (who has worked quite a bit in Hollywood) will become the executive producer of a television project created as part of cooperation between TV channels HBO и China Movie Channel.

Yuen is expected to take on producing and supervising duties on at least two films: "Master of the Drunken Fist: Beggar So" (Master Of The Drunken Fist: Beggar So) and "Shadowless Strike Master Wong Kei Ying" (Master Of The Shadowless Kick: Wong Kei-Ying). The project will not be limited to two films; an entire anthology is planned.

The films will take place in the setting of ancient China, during the reign of the Qin Dynasty. Nothing more about the plot is yet known.

The duology, which is about to begin filming, will feature exclusively Chinese actors, among whom will be real masters of martial arts. According to the site Deadline, then Kung Fu, Muay Thai and MMA will be shown on the screen.

This is the moron who ruined DOA.

      Alex,
It’s a bit of a shame for Corey, since his name has been remembered since the 90s, thanks to the action films with Jet and Jackie.
But I didn’t play DOA before watching the movie of the same name and it seemed more or less normal to me, like a film adaptation of some fighting game. I even rewatched it. But last year Dead or Alive 5 was released on PC, from which I became acquainted with the series. How beautifully all sorts of fighting styles are shown there: Elena's piguaquan, Hayabusa's ninjutsu, Li Fang's taijiquan, Brad Wong's "drunken fist", Christie's snake style, Jann Lee's jeet kune do, Bayman's grabs and Tina and Bass Armstrong's throws. In the film, as you rightly noted, there is no trace of this.
It was a bit of a shame for the film, but you probably shouldn’t blame the director.

      Alex,

Doa was spoiled not only by him, but by the one who invited Devon Aoki with a chicken ass instead of a face to play the role of Kasumi, who has tens of thousands of fans and an extensive cosplay base. Well, at least I didn’t let you down with Ayane and Tina.

        uranium,

Changing the actress would not have saved the film because:
        1) A moronic script, full of “subtle irony and sparkling humor”
        2) Moronic editing designed to hide the unprofessionalism of actresses in martial arts
        3) Almost all the characters do not use their original styles, for example, Tina Armstrong uses kung fu, although she is a wrestler, Hayate, a ninja, uses kung fu, everyone fights in kung fu style, but Christie does not show her snake style .
Oddly enough, I’m not a fan of the series, I haven’t even played a single game, it’s just infuriating to see such a typical approach to a video game adaptation, but when it comes to another shitty comic book, everything is at its best for fans.

          Alex,

Actually, because of Aoki, I didn’t notice the rest of the film’s flaws.

Interestingly, in 93, Donnie Yen played both of these characters: Beggar So in A Hero Among Heroes, and Wong Kei-yin in The Iron Monkey!
