Karate is based on the technique of striking with hands, feet, knees, elbows; there are also various types of strikes with an open palm, for example, with the outer edge (shuto), straightened four fingers (nukite) and the “heel” of the palm (shotei uchi).
Some styles of karate also practice ground fighting, throwing, applying pain to joints, holding, and striking vital points.
