Review of the action movie Karate Girl (KG)

Somewhere 18 months after the sensational debut in "High Kick Girl", Rina Takeda, owner of 2nd dan in karate, starred in her second full-length film "Karate Girl" (KG), which used the same “puritanical” approach to demonstrating martial arts on the screen, but this time in terms of fights it was not so “explosive”. Its “discoverer”, producer/fight director Fuyuhiko Nishi handed over director duties Yoshikatsu Kimura, screenwriter and assistant director from "High Kick Girl". As a result, technically the film looks much better on the big screen, but it is spoiled by overly long dialogues and a lack of fights.

"High Kick Girl", except for getting to know “little ball lightning” Rino Takeda, was distinguished not only by a large number of training sessions and various fights, but also by the presence of a significant number of other real fighters - in the end, it looked less like a full-length film, and more like a kind of training manual.

В "Karate Girl" British fighter was also filmed Richard William Heselton living in Japan (this is his screen debut), and holder of the 6th dan in karate Tatsuya Naka, who played the role of a teacher Rina в "High Kick Girl". They both did an excellent job. But this time the focus is on Takeda, whose skills go unused for most of the time, she only has a fraction of the fights she had in her first film.

Now, at 19 years old, Takeda looks the same, with more personality, but due to the primitive script Niches she was given little chance to prove herself on screen as an actress, other than to stare straight into the camera with a menacing gaze. Her partner on the set is the latest “find” Niches 14-year-old Hina Tobimatsu. She lacks genuine wit Takeda, but she has the skills and determination. At the moment Takeda we need a real director and a quality script. Then she can show her potential by becoming the “action queen” of East Asia along with the Chinese Jiang Lu Xia and secretly “Jija” by Yanin Vismistananda. Your fans "Karate Girl" partially, and maybe completely, satisfied, but only for a while - until new films are released, for example, “Kunoichi” (2011) and "Future Fighters" (2012)
