Creation of Tekken. Part three

This time Gary will only be given one attempt at the trick.

- One. Last try.

All stunt coordinators are familiar with risk management. And if Gary gets even more injured, he could be sidelined for the rest of filming.

- Removed!

Great landing after a great flip. Gary's leg, although painful, is still in working order. Eric won't have to resort to a fallback option.

You can't see Gary's face in the gear, so I'd use one of our stuntmen, Mike Leigh, in costume, we'd rehearse all night, get him in there, and call it a day.

But Eric didn't have that opportunity with John Foo, so in the next episode, in which Jin is thrown back, Momo's participation is necessary.

If I get injured, it will be a problem for them, as well as for production. When I work as a stuntman, they just throw me, etc. Will you jump? Take action! But here I have to be more careful, I have a considerable responsibility.

Now that you can count on Momo, Cyril will be able to start creating choreography for Jin. This episode was filmed a couple of days ago. In such a stunt, the creators would never risk using an actor starring in the lead role.

- Three, two, one, let's go!

Momo is cool. I think he is talented and has a good level of skill. He's really good.

Yes, John may be grateful to his stunt double for this trick, but compared to what awaits Momo today, this is, as they say, “just the beginning.”

Tonight, on the outskirts of the Anvil ghetto, the second crew prepares to film the final and most exciting part of the episode, in which Jin Kazama is pursued by a gunman.

-Are you ready to run across the rooftops of Anvil? Yes? Ready?
- Yes, okay, I'm on my way. Bye.

Once again, Momo will have to temporarily become Jin Kazama to perform the trick. The armed man, who will also have to jump, is another member of Cyril's team. Russian Ilya Nikitenko, a former world champion in gymnastics, now lives in France and constantly works in Cyril’s team.

When the French arrived on the set, security had already been taken care of - cardboard boxes were stacked between two buildings. This structure will serve as a kind of net in case Momo or Ilya miss their jump and fall down. And on the roof of the second building on which you need to jump, a mat was attached to soften the landing. Cyril doesn't seem very happy about this. But ultimately, Eric Norris, as stunt coordinator, is personally responsible for the safety of the stunt performers. From his personal experience, he knows that a jump in a film can look quite realistic without such a risk.

Second-cast director Doug Aarniokoski, who is overseeing today's filming, made a simple decision: Cyril's guys would have to do things the American way.

In France, where he is often the stunt choreographer himself, Cyril insists that his people train for weeks on the exact parameters of a stunt for a given episode. Cyril's method is for stuntmen to repeat the same movement until the body and mind are completely in a state where the stunt is executed flawlessly. Before the film crew arrives, performing the stunt should feel as natural to them as walking. So natural, in fact, that they'll be willing to do it in one take without any safety gear.

But with so many fights he had to supervise on set Tekken, Cyril failed to properly prepare his guys for this jump. Finally, Cyril agrees to use the boxes and mat, but in exchange, Momo and Illya are allowed to perform the trick without any security wires.

- It's basically a mind game. Everything happens in your head.

For these professionals, the few minutes before a trick come down to mental preparation.

- Are you ready to go up?
- Yes.

For these guys running on the rooftops of Paris on weekends, the real risk may be underestimating the real danger of such a jump. Therefore, Cyril, as a leader and mentor, wants to personally check their psychological readiness before the director says: “Motor!”

- Come on, we're ready, we'll start in a minute!
