It didn’t immediately dawn on me why the first ones were so good "Collectors". It’s one thing to mindlessly get high from watching or re-watching, it’s quite another to figure out what the secret of magnificence is. It seems like an ordinary action film, so ordinary that in this formulation lies the answer: the secret is in the charming spontaneity. Two guys calmly stuff the faces and bones of debtors, while not wearing guns and emerging relatively unscathed from the messes in which bats and rosettes are used. There is something lamp relic in this, rooted not even in the B category of the 90s, but rather in Perestroika.
What migrated to sequel? Firstly, a radically striking fighting style. As if in old Hong Kong action films, opponents carelessly hammer each other with their hands and feet, not taking advantage of obvious chances to enter into a clinch or knock them over, and they themselves do not take measures to protect themselves from the fight. But this is not a kicking overdose, no, here the fighters hit carefully, without swinging, change positions, do combinations, and defend intelligently. This time there will be not only wall-to-wall and one-versus-several, but also one long duel, and a cool one at that. Secondly, there will again be one shootout, and again a mediocre one; oh, Jesse, where did you lose that coordinator who directed the shooting at "Butcher"? Thirdly, no matter how Sue tries to convince Frenchie and herself that she has reconsidered her views on life, the romantic nose remains the same.
But there are also changes. Let's say Frenchie's personality. In the prequel, the former special forces soldier was infuriating with his indecision, based on a moral dilemma: in the war, they say, everything was fair, but here I beat some scoundrels to serve others, am I a trembling creature or do I have the right? No, now French is mature, coarse, and most importantly, tired. He doesn’t feel sorry for anyone and doesn’t mess around with anyone, he does his job quickly and firmly. If in the first part French and Sue were just partners, now they are friends, and the viewer will feel the warmth hovering between them. That's why the sequel is better than the first part.
