Star of hand-to-hand action films of the 80s and 90s Jean-Claude Van Damme For several years now he has been scaring his fans with his latest action film, after which ZhKVD will give up active acting.
But for now, the Belgian has only old projects that are piling up, which still won’t find their way to the audience. We are talking about filmed back in 2014 "The Eagle's Way" (Aka "Full of Love") and about Vanya’s production projects "Falcon Man", "Three Coyotes" и "Double Action" (we wrote about this here).
But information about Van Damme's latest hand-to-hand project is still leaking out. In the latest news the film was called "Capture" and the concept was something like "Wrestler" (2008) starring Mickey Rourke.
But the title of the film has already been changed to "What is my name?" (What's My Name?), but the screenplay is still from the award-winning screenwriter Nika Vallelonga (“Green Book”). But the director of Jean-Claude’s future swan song was a Frenchman Jeremy Zag, who previously worked only on animated films and TV series.
Here's the synopsis: Van Damme will be playing himself (similar to his most popular film of 2008 "JCVD"). In a coma after a serious car accident, he awakens with amnesia - not recognizing anyone, not even himself. Through a series of fights against iconic fighters throughout his legendary career, Van Damme begins to search within himself for his identity and the meaning of life.
This is what the actor said to the news agency Deadline:
I want it to be new "Bloody sport", but at a higher level. In film "What is my name?" my career is on the decline, and when I leave the premiere of another action movie, I am not happy, because for the last 30 years I have been living in hotels, which is actually true. We're going to bring real elements from my life and what happened to me. I came from Belgium all the way to Hollywood. I succeeded, I failed, I came back. I go outside after the premiere, and boom! — I get hit by a car because I'm drunk. When I wake up with a blow, I don't know my name and no one recognizes me.
Interestingly, the same source reveals that the mental enemies that the 61-year-old protagonist will fight will be the "bosses" from his previous films. It seems that the 64-year-old will take part in the project Dolph Lundgren ("Universal Soldier"), 59 years old Michelle Kissi (“Kickboxer”) and 75-year-old Bolo Yen ("Bloody sport"). In addition, there is talk about the participation of stars UFC, but names have not yet been announced.
Well, will Van Damme's last hand-to-hand film be released or will it be shelved like "Full of Love" - time will tell. And you can write in the comments what you think about this strange project.
We tried our best to ignore the fact that the British action hero Jason Statham, which is slated to release two action films this year "The Expendables 4" и "Operation Fortune: The Art of Victory", decided to star in the sequel to the “shark” thriller "Meg: Monster from the Deep".
But after a Chinese martial artist, actor and director joined the project Jackie Wu (the “War of the Wolves” duology), we simply could not ignore another film in which the serious Statham will defeat a huge shark.
We would like to remind you that due to serious health problems, Wu has not acted in hand-to-hand films for a long time, working mainly in dramas, patriotic war films and science fiction films. The master's last combat role can be considered a short film "Guardians of Martial Arts" (2017). It's funny that Jackie Wu there is another Hollywood project - an adventure film Untitled based on Vietnamese "Bodyguards from Saigon", where Jackie should become a partner Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy franchise).
Of the confirmed actors to return to their roles from the first "Meg" - only a Chinese actress Li Bingbing (“Forbidden Kingdom”). But the director of the film has changed - he is listed as the director Ben Wheatley ("High-Rise", "Shootout", "In the Ground")
"Meg 2" with a subtitle "Trench" has been filming for a couple of months now, so soon you can find out more about the project if anyone is interested...
Unfinished director and screenwriter R. Ellis Frazier, which is familiar to visitors to our site with such action films as "Misfire" (2014) and "Showdown" (2017) starring Gary Daniels, "Theft" (2017) with Dolph Lundgren and "Heritage" (2020) with Luke Goss, close to release.
We are talking about an action movie that was filmed about 5 years ago and is called "Retronslator" (Repeater), but all this time the director could not finish editing the film, being busy with other projects.
Synopsis: Smith is an assassin who failed a mission in Colombia. To get away with it, his handler assigns one last target - a hacker-activist who is important to both the corrupt government and the boss of a criminal empire. In addition, other killers are following in Smith’s footsteps, who have long been competing with the main character.
Played the main role in the film Amar Sidhu (“2307: Operation Android”), a couple of annoying killers were embodied on the screen by the star of hand-to-hand action films of the 90s Gary Daniels ("Blood Moon", "The Expendables") and Kristana Loken ("Terminator 3"). Also featured in the cast is a charismatic British villain Nick Moran (“Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”, “London Job”, “British Psycho”).
According to Frazier, "Retronslator" is ready for release directly on DVD and this will happen in 2022, but the exact release date has not been announced. Well, we can look at the official poster and wait for the official trailer.
Let us remember that from Ellis Frazier we are also waiting for hand-to-hand action Nogales starring Michael Jai White.

Let's hope for some decent hand-to-hand and bloody action.
The game is cool. I hope the series will be no worse.
Thanks for posting. Hopefully more comments soon.
I don't know about everyone else, but I'm crazy about Xiao Man (I hope I didn't misspell his name...
