Short films Twisted Tigers, Onion Soup, The Hungt: Savage Within, Salvajes, Jen Wu, Late for a Date and Steel Shadows

We already somehow wrote about an upcoming independent film "Rotating Tigers" from martial arts practitioner, stuntman and director Joseph Le and creative team Team Red Pro.

Twisted Tigers

So, after going to short film festivals, a 30-minute crime film became available to the common viewer.

It is important that the brothers we knew well were engaged in stunts and hand-to-hand combat Andy Le и Brian Leand Armand Ranabal. All three have been working on serious projects in Hollywood for some time.

The film's plot is based on the true stories of its actors, including the main protagonist, stuntman and student of the Shaolin kung fu school Turrell Cat Bullock, who previously starred in several short films and even worked for Cirque du Soleil from 2019 to 2020.

Bullock plays Tee, a former gangster struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder while living a vow of nonviolence. But he will have to deviate from his principles because of his own students, who are stuck in a local gang.

They play along with Turrell Smitty Tea, Brandon Holam Lee, Brandon Soo Hoo and others.

Onion Soup

Being a professional cinematographer and keen on martial arts, Alberto Triana made a short film called "Onion soup" based on the HBO crime series "Warrior", which in turn was built on long-standing recordings of the legendary Bruce Lee.

Synopsis: Choji, a gangster from the Hopeway Asian gang, can't understand why he chose the path of violence, but decides to help a rival gang member who is being racistly harassed by five Irish men.

The following took part in the film: Chris Maciro ("Chewing Gum and Broken Fingers") Jackie Gerhardi ("Immortal Wars: Rebirth"), Tek Le (TV series “Chronicles of Val”), Charlit Dae (“San Andreas: Mega Earthquake”) and others.

The Hungt: Savage Within

If you remember, French martial artist, actor, stuntman and director Fabien Garcia “threatened” to realize a full-length sci-fi action movie called "Hungting" according to your own scenario. Anyway, we wrote about it.

But in two years the project didn’t really move anywhere, and Garcia and his team Z Team Films They shot a kind of concept pro for a future film, in which a girl forester becomes involved in a showdown between alien life forms.

The main role was played by the actress Madeline Humphreys (“The circles are getting smaller and smaller”), and they kept her company Brett Tutor (“Combat robot No. 4”), Lou Wegner (“Code 8”), Davis Chong ("Samurai Cop 2"), himself Fabien Garcia (“The Price of Success”) and others.

Wild

Interesting choreography in the style of the John Wick films was demonstrated in the director's short film Stephen Rennie, who last year gave us a brutal spectacle in the film "Repentance", who took silver in top three short films for 2021 according to visitors to our website.

This time the film Rennie called "Wild" there is even a plot that revolves around a man who comes to the enemy’s camp for revenge.

The main role was played by a stuntman Luis Valladares.

Jen Wu

A German martial arts practitioner and stuntman released a small combat sketch on his channel Selam Tades. He wrote and filmed a story about how a “victim” of hired killers independently decided to finish off his own killers.

Apart from the Selama Tadesa, martial arts practitioners and stuntmen took part in the sketch Indira Hong Riek и Felix Causset.

How well the guys succeeded - see for yourself.

Late for a Date

We also got a comedy sketch from a freerunner, parkour athlete and stuntman we know Omar Zaki.

In the new short film, the character Zaki is very late for a date and uses his skills to get to the meeting on time.

As is often the case with Zaki, he actively uses a head-mounted action camera.

Steel Shadows

Let's finish today's selection with a short sketch of a sword fight from an independent film actor Chris Levine (“Life on anabolic steroids”, “I hate children”, “Coach”), who was suddenly drawn to the short format.

In the sketch entitled "Shadows of Steel" himself Chris Levine, plays the mentor of a hitman played by Paul Benton, whom he is going to finish off in order to find his daughter.

According to Chris, the actors wanted to convey the spirit of 80s films like "Highlander", where the actors in the frame waved their swords a little awkwardly and naively.

Here I already remember quite well that “Onion Soup” is very well made. Mexican "John Wick" is good with fights. And... Yes, that seems to be it.

«Twisted Tigers“- I wonder why he turns to Tsoi’s photograph - Lee? In general, an uninteresting B-category action movie about living in a disadvantaged area and all sorts of colorful showdowns. The main character, despite being a black man, fights in the style of Shaolin kung fu. Quite harsh.

«Onion Soup“- I don’t like this old kung fu style, when a blow is thrown or something, the opponent makes a block - and both freeze for half a second. But the rest is very possible to see. Shot in a stylish and original way. I'll probably add it to my collection.

«The Hungt: Savage Within“- a Hollywood-like attitude, senseless and merciless. Actually, I couldn’t let go of the impression that I was watching some kind of science-fiction thriller of the direct-to-video category.

«Wild"- a very, very good take on John Wick, only instead of neo-noir it's a showdown inside a Mexican gang. And, to be honest, even though everything was over-accelerated, I liked it more than the wooden Keanu Reeves. And yes, here, which is rare, is not a sketch, but a full-fledged short film. It can also be added to the collection, probably.

«Jen Wu"- it will look like a scene in an action movie.

«Late for a Date"- funny, but not enough. Well, so, filmed for the fans.

«Steel Shadows- about nothing. Although visually shot well.
