Dave Bautista in the action movie JJ Perry, Iko Uwais in "Ash", Mike Mo in "Flying Shadow"

Martial artist, stuntman and director JJ Perry last year he made his directorial debut with a vampire action comedy "Day shift", who came second in prize for the top three best action films for 2022.

Recently information appeared about Perry's new project - an action comedy film called "Killer's Game" (The Killer's Game), which is an adaptation of the popular 1997 novel by Jay Boninsaga. The original source was adapted into a script by three people: James Coyne (“Viking Kingdom”, “A Certain Justice”), Simon Kinberg (X-Men franchise) and Rand Ravitch (TV series “Capture”, “Second Chance”).

The film is about Joe Flood, a principled veteran killer who learns that he is dying. Thinking his days are numbered and refusing to commit suicide because it goes against his Catholic principles, he puts his life on the line for a multi-million dollar prize only to realize two things: first, he was misdiagnosed, and second. – his girlfriend is pregnant. Now they both have to race across Europe, fighting off the toughest killers of their generation.

The main role in the film will be played by a former professional wrestler, and now a Hollywood star - Dave Batista (Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy). At the moment there are two more names in the cast: Sofia Boutella ("Kingsman: The Secret Service", "Hotel Artemis") and Ben Kingsley (“Schindler’s List”, “Shutter Island”).

Judging by the plot, familiar names may appear in the future action film. Who knows, maybe JJ will again call his sidekick into his project for a supporting role Scott Adkinsas happened with "Day shift"... In any case, the action movie will begin filming in the summer, and the release is planned for next year.

It became known about the new project of the Indonesian master of silat and actor Iko Uwaisa. He will play one of the roles in the fantasy thriller called "Ash" (Ash).

The film is directed by an actor, composer and producer under the pseudonym Flying Lotus, which may be familiar to such directorial projects as the phantasmagoric comedy horror "Kuso" (2017) and just a horror movie "Z/L/O 99" (2022)

It is interesting that one of the general producers of the future film is a South African director Neil Blomkamp, known for such quality fantasy films as "District #9" (2009) "Elysium: Heaven Not on Earth" (2013) and "A Robot Named Chappie" (2015)

The plot will follow a mysterious woman who awakens on a distant planet to find the crew of her space station brutally murdered. She must decide whether she can trust the man sent to save her and reveal all the secrets of what happened.

The main screen duet was performed by actors Eiza Gonzalez (“Baby Driver”, “Alita: Battle Angel”) and Aaron Paul (“Mission: Impossible 3”, “Hooligan”), and besides Iko Uwaisa (the “Raid” duology) took part in the thriller Bela Koale (TV series “Private Detective Magnum”) and Keith Elliott ("Fresh meat").

The authors say that, despite the gloomy synopsis, there is room for action in the thriller. We hope it will be the hero Uwais.

It seems, announced back in 2016, a threequel reboot "Kickboxer" starring Alain Moussi and directing Dimitri Logothetis (TV series “The New Adventures of Robin Hood”) we can’t wait, because time goes by, and Dimitri is filming anything, but not another film in the series "Kickboxer".

But an action movie called "Flying Shadow" (Flying Shadow), the script for which was written by Logothetis himself in collaboration with Jim McGrath, with whom they had already worked together on "The Kickboxer Returns" (2018) and "Jiu-Jitsu: Battle for Earth" (2020)

The story revolves around the stolen legendary sword, which is called the “Flying Shadow”. Secret Service agent Travis and private security expert Lin must return it and prevent a political tragedy, because with the help of this sword the main villain plans to kill the president.

The main positive roles were played by the actor David Giuntoli (TV series "Grimm", "Key and Peele", "A Million Little Things") and martial arts practitioner and actor Mike Mo (“Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood”, “Blade of the 47 Ronin”, “Unanswered”), and played the main villain Alain Moussi (dilogy “Kickboxer”, “Order: Kill”).

Despite the rather strange synopsis, the film in its niche may turn out to be quite good. We'll keep our fingers crossed and wait for the trailer.
