Actor, stuntman and fight choreographer Alan Chui has passed away

It became known that the famous Hong Kong martial arts practitioner, actor, director, choreographer and stuntman died on November 2 at the age of 70. Alan Chui. He reportedly felt unwell and died the same day. The causes of the actor's death have not yet been disclosed.

Born in Hong Kong in 1952, Alan Chui Chung-San was enrolled in the Peking Opera School for training in acrobatics and stunts at the age of ten. In 1970, he began his full-time career as a stuntman, working both in classic Shaw Brothers, and in a new studio at that time Golden Harvest, as well as on the TV channel TVB. At the beginning of his career, he can be seen as an extra in such significant films for the genre as "Have a drink with me" (1966) "Hapkido" (1972) "Enter the Dragon" (1973) and "Taekwondo Strikes" (1973)

By the late '70s, Chuy began to land more substantial roles, appearing in films such as "7 grandmasters" (1978) "Kung Fu vs. Yoga" (1979) "Two fists against the law" (1980) and Japanese action film "Golgo 13" (1977), where he fought with the legendary Sonny Tiboy. It was then that Alan’s talent as a fight choreographer was noticed. Here you can select films "The Hermit of Shaolin" (1978) starring Blackie Ko and "The Last Salute to Chivalry" (1978) by the then-beginning director John Woo.

In the 80s Alan Chui entered as a skilled stuntman-gymnast, who was trusted with the roles of notable villains: "The Incredible Kung Fu Mission" (1979) "Shaolin vs Lama" (1980) "Shaolin vs Ninja" (1983) and many others. However, Alan was more interested in staging fight choreography than his acting career.

In 1986, he was part of the team that won the award for Best Hand-to-Hand Action Choreography for "The Witch from Nepal", and the following year was nominated again for "Chinese Ghost Story". Chui also tried himself as a director: "Cool Beauty" (1995) with Yuen Biao and Cynthia Han and "Bloody Secret" (2000) with Ray Lui and Anthony Wong.

From the beginning to the end of the 2000s, Chui played unnoticeable roles and cameos in a variety of films and TV series, from which he can be recognized in such films as "Breaking news" (2004) "Election 2" (2006) and "Life without principles" (2011) by Johnny To and remake "Chinese Ghost Story" (2011) by Wilson Yip.

During my career Alan Chui has appeared in more than 130 films and numerous television shows. Modern fans of action cinema should remember Chui for his role as the main villain in the film. "Claws of Steel" (1993), against whom the young man fought Jet Li.

All fans of Hong Kong cinema will fondly remember Alan's roles, and we see off the veteran of Hong Kong cinema to heaven, where the masters he knows are waiting for him.
