Moreover, we do not strive to learn news about various kinds of kungfu series from China, which their TV conveyor produces in abundance. We are talking about the series of the famous Chinese channel TVB "Fist within four walls". The 28-episode series started in early August and is showing excellent ratings. But what is so special about it?
Perhaps the attention was attracted by the acting ensemble of the series, which included: Nancy Wu ("Ghost House") Benjamin Yuen (“Double castling”), Grace Wong (“From Vegas to Macau 3”), young talents Ruko Chan и Jaz Lam, as well as “kungfu grandma” Yuen Qiu (“Kung Fu Showdown”) and needs no introduction Philip Ng ("Once Upon a Time in Shanghai").

The events of the series take place in the setting of the 50s of the last century in the notorious city of Kowloon City, which until the early 90s was the territory of triads, over which Hong Kong law had no power.
The plot tells the story of a young guy, Ah Kuen (Ruko Chan), who returns to Kowloon City after losing his family in order to find his sister. Kuen invents a new identity for himself and begins to explore the lawless city, gradually getting to know the locals. The desire to find his sister and restore justice to these lands leads Kuen to the experienced Thai boxer Lung Sing-fu (Philip Ng), who organizes underground fights. Possessing martial arts skills, the protagonist not only must find his sister and protect the innocent, but also uncover the truth about his father's death.

The next series is directly related to the theme of our site, primarily thanks to the title actor - the main star of the project of the Amazon cable TV channel called "Jean-Claude Van Johnson" is, accordingly, the good old JCVD.
The pilot episode was filmed at the film studio facilities Scott Free Productions, once founded by brothers Ridley Scott (“Alien”) and Tony Scott (“Spy Games”) specially for the Amazon cable channel. The genre of the series is comedy.
Synopsis: Jean-Claude Van Damme plays himself, an aging action actor and martial artist who is "sagging" in retirement. But he will have to return to work, since he is actually a government spy and assassin. The main events should unfold on the set of a new action movie called “Huckleberry Finn,” to which Van Damme will go for the sake of the once beloved woman and the exposure of the drug cartel.
Besides JCVD, the following actors are involved in the project: Kat Foster (TV series "Bad Teacher"), Moises Arisas ("Ben Hur") Phylicia Rashad (“Creed: Rocky’s Legacy”) and others. The director of the project was Peter Atencio (TV series “The Last Man on Earth”).
The pilot episode of the series aired on Amazon August 19 and was warmly received by the audience, who noted the high-quality picture, self-irony of the title actor, good humor and musical accompaniment from 80s melodies.
We can only hope that the ratings of “Jean-Claude Van Johnson” will allow the series to be completed, the first season of which is planned to have 5 episodes.

On the contrary, I liked the pilot. The idea is necessary, if only because today the film series industry is very serious and competes with big cinema. There's money and popularity. And if the JCVD goes into production, it will again be heard and seen, and also with money. In addition, “Johnson” is not bad at all - it is an outright comedy with self-irony and parody. And here nothing more is needed. If only the writers kept the viewer's interest.
I agree and support - the pilot is good! Van Damme can find a new round of his career in the series, more as an actor. I really liked his self-irony! I like people with a sense of humor about themselves)).
