Actor Tatsuya Nakadai is a living classic of Japanese cinema who has been working in cinema for over 60 years. Nakadai has starred with the most influential and famous directors: Akira Kurosawa (“Seven Samurai”, “Bodyguard”, “Brave Sanjuro”, “Heaven and Hell”), Masaki Kobayashi (“Kaidan: A Tale of the Mysterious and Terrible”, “Harakiri”), Kihachi Okamoto (“Judo Genius”, “Sword of Destiny”), Hideo Gosha ("Murderer"), Daisuke Ito ("The Fall of the Shogun") Seijiro Koyama (“The Story of Hachiko”) and others. Despite his 87-year-old age, Nakadai accepted the director's invitation Shigemichi Sugita (“Miracle on Christmas Night,” “The Last Ronin”) to star in a samurai TV movie called "The Return of Kikyo" (Kikyo: The Return).

Story based on a story "Kikyo" Shohei Fujisawa tells the story of an old sword master who, after 30 years of travel and seclusion, returns to his hometown to live out the last years of his life. But the difficult story of a young girl touches the old man’s heart, and he decides to help her cope with her mysterious pursuers.

In addition to Nakadai-san, the following people took part in the film: Takako Tokiwa (“Flower Basket”), Kazuki Kitamura (duology “Kill Bill”, “Raid 2”), Naoto Ogata ("Falling Camellia") Jiro Sato (“Gokusen”) and other actors.

"The Return of Kikyo" has already been shown at the 32nd Tokyo International Film Festival, and the television premiere at Samurai Drama Channel assigned to 9 February 2020 year.

Japanese movie star Junichi Okada (“Battle of Sekigahara”, “Falling Camellia”, “Fable”) starred in a new samurai action film called "Burning Sword" (Baragaki: Unbroken Samurai).

The film is a project of the director and screenwriter Masato Harada ("Suicide Song", "Battle of Sekigahara", "Criminal for the Prosecutor"). Harada adapted the novel Shiba Ryotaro 1964 year.

The film will focus on Toshizo Hijikata, who was the vice commander of the Shinsengumi detachment - a kind of special forces of the Meiji period. The plot will tell about the confrontation between Hijikata and the imperialist Meiji government in the setting of the Battle of Boshin.

Besides Junichi Okata, starred in the film: Ko Shibasaki (“Battle Royale”, “47 Ronin”), Ryohei Suzuki (“Perverted Mask”, “Land of Shinobi”), Hideaki Ito ("The Last Sword of the Samurai", "Terroforming"), Ryosuke Yamada (“Fullmetal Alchemist”) and others.

Let’s finish today’s selection of historical action films with a project, suddenly, from Kazakhstan. It's about the movie "Tomiris" director Akana Sataeva (dilogy “Racketeer”, “She”, “Businessmen”).

Synopsis: Among the ancient peoples who inhabited the expanses of Eurasia, the tribes calling themselves Sakas stood out. These were nomads and great warriors of the steppe. King Spargap, having the right to the royal throne, is involved in a war between the clans of the Saks - the Massagets. Influential leaders, among whom the greedy and cunning Kavaz and Kurtun stand out, are in no hurry to unite under a single government, defending their interests. Spargap is trying to unite the steppe tribes with sword and word. During this alarming time, his daughter, Tomiris, is born. Her mother, Bopay, whom Spargap loved very much, dies during childbirth. Care and education fall on him, and Tomiris from an early age learns the hardships of camp life and military life. The treacherous Kavaz and Kurtun conspire, as a result of which Spargap dies. In the steppe, discord and civil strife begins again. Little Tomiris manages to escape from the killers with the faithful people of Spargap. A reward has been unofficially announced for her head.

The main role in the film was played by a debutante Almira Tursyn, and the rest of the castes are filled with: Adil Akhmetov (“The Road to Mother”), Erkebulan Dayyrov ("Golden Horde"), Berik Aitzhanov ("Liquidator"), Murat Bisenbin (“Racketeer”) and others.

    I really like Japanese samurai dramas. A very beautiful picture, laconic, beautiful fights - an aesthetic pleasure. :) And “Tamiris” really intrigued me.
