We are, of course, talking about a film called "Triple Threat" (Triple Threat), which has been the leader in the category for two years in a row "Most Anticipated Film" as part of our project to sum up the results of combat cinema.
The plot will unfold around the daughter of a billionaire, working as a lawyer, who decided to put an end to the activities of a large criminal organization. Of course, the crime bosses cannot allow this and send a detachment of professional mercenaries to destroy the girl. But three former military and underground fighters undertake to save the main character, who start a real war with the bad guys.
The central role of "damsel in distress" went to the American-Chinese actress Selina Jade (“War of the Wolves 2”), and around her the brightest representatives of combat cinema of our time will fight for life and death: Tony JAA (Ong Bak franchise), Iko Uwais (The Raid franchise), Tiger Chen ("Tai Chi Master", "Kung Fu Traveler"), Scott Adkins (Undisputed franchise) Michael Jai White ("Undisputed 2", "Never Give Up 2-3"), Michael Bisping ("XXx: World Domination"), Gija Yanin ("Chocolate", "Honor of the Dragon 2"). My rating for the film is between 3 and 4 on a five-point scale. High expectations )))
Probably fans of martial arts were expecting a powerful breakthrough action movie that would shake up the foundations of the genre, like “Ong Bak 1”, “Raid 1” and “Undisputed 2” once did, but what turned out to be just a standard action movie, but not a failure!
Compared to the films "Showdown in Manila", "Close Combat", "Xxx World Domination" - a completely different level. In those films, hand-to-hand actors did not even bother to strain for various reasons:
- perhaps the investors’ money was only enough to invite these actors)))
- perhaps the actors themselves did not want to show their former skills - mother laziness, etc.
- perhaps the actors have already lost their former form - old age is not a joy, flexibility is no longer the same, etc.
- so it was in the script))) - a pebble in the garden of Nevsky and Vin Diesel - most of the time it is self-admiration, in the absence of hand-to-hand skills!
but in “Triple Threat”, after all, every athlete got an on-screen fight! Overall the film is ok, but it could have turned out better of course!
For example, the script needed to be corrected:
1) Yuvays’s unconvincing tossing between two factions. Well, where is this good? He kind of gets away with it, and all the harsh mercenaries don’t touch him)))
2) Find a suitable female character for Jije Yanin to fight on screen. The girl from "Chocolate" was leaked after all)))
3) remove Selina Jade altogether - for some reason this actress annoys me - again the role of “damsel in distress” (((everywhere she is pushed into hand-to-hand action films - “The Legendary Assassin”, “Slave Trade”, “War of the Wolves 2”.
4) remove or shorten the shooting scenes, and the plot in the finale will lead to an underground tournament, where, like, everything is without weapons, only skills decide, etc.
I watched Triple Threat yesterday. You can already download it. Overall, cool. They run, fight, shoot. But there is a feeling of being deceived. It seems that they didn’t bother to come up with personalities for all the heroes, as was the case in “The Expendables,” and some, like Ron Smoorenburg, for example, were openly leaked. And not him alone. With all due respect to Scott Adkins and Jay White, they're fucked up. The film is excellent, but it did not become an event, like it was with “The Raid”, SPL or Flash Point.
