Franchise "Marine" from WWE Studios has undergone a kind of reverse evolution from wide release to a low-budget direct-to-video action film. The main "lure" of this series were professional wrestlers, stars of the federation WWE, for whose fans the product was designed.
In the first film of 2006, the popular wrestler played the main role John Cena, who gave up the lead role in the 2009 sequel to another WWE star - Ted DiBiase Jr. But the main face of the franchise became another wrestler, namely Mike "Miz" Mizanin, who starred in three subsequent films: "Marine: Home Front" (2012) "Marine: Moving Target" (2015) and "Marine: Battlefield" (2016)
In the sixth film in the franchise, Mizanin returned to the role of retired Marine-turned-emergency worker Jake Carter. The film has a subtitle "Close Quarters" (The Marine 6: Close Quarters) and is the directorial project of the British James Nunn ("Skyscraper of Death", "Hooligans 3", "Liquidators"), who had already worked with Mike on the fifth film in the franchise from WWE Studios.
As usual in such films, the synopsis is wildly banal: Jake Carter and another retired soldier, Luke Trapper, join forces to save a girl dear to both of them from the clutches of international criminals.
Besides Mike Mizanin, the action film was attended by: a legend of world wrestling Shawn Michaels ("Bicycle Cops"), WWE star Rebecca Quinn, big guy Martin Ford ("Undisputed 4"), Terence Maynard ("Special Forces "Cobra"), Lee Charles (TV series "Gangs of London") and others.
On Blu-ray and in online cinemas the sixth "Marine" will appear November 13 2018 years. For now, we can only offer a short trailer.
Our editors, of course, are shocked, but it turns out that the director and screenwriter Jesse W. Johnson makes films not only from Scott Adkins starring. We no longer thought that this tandem would ever separate. But it happened for the project "Legion of Max" (Legion Maxx).
This American action film is based on the script David Fillmore, who previously worked exclusively on short films. In the director's chair - cheerful Jesse W. Johnson.
The film will tell the story of legionnaire Max, who became disillusioned with his service and became a mercenary. However, the mission in South America fails and Max is nearly killed. But miraculously surviving, the former mercenary believes in God and begins a completely new life. Now he works in the church and lives peacefully, enjoying the company of his friends. However, the demons of the past find Max, and now he is forced to confront his former colleagues in the military profession in order to protect those who are dear to him.
Plays the main role in the action movie Dominic Vanderberg (“Alien Agent”, “Hooligans 2”, “True Legend”), and the rest of the ensemble is filled out by: Louis Mandylor ("End of the day"), Carmen Argenziano (TV series "Lie to Me") Brad Ashten (“Hollywood Minute”) and other actors.
It is unknown when the film will be released. But, almost certainly, it will be in 2019. At the same time as the release of other films by Jesse V. Johnson - the long-awaited "Triple Threat" и "Revenge" with Scott Adkins.
We would like to finish today’s selection with a project of American-Nepalese production called "The Man from Kathmandu" (The Man From Kathmandu).
This film, whose advertising slogan is the phrase “Not a superhero, but just a hero,” was directed by Pemoy Dhondup (“We are not monks”). He also wrote the script for this action adventure film.
Synopsis: Faisal Mustafa is a Muslim teenager of neonatal/Hindu descent who has lived in Los Angeles since childhood. Like all other teenagers, he fell under the evil influence of the never-sleeping city. To stay away from temptation, the guy goes to Kathmandu in the hope of reuniting with his father and taking part in the Syrian conflict with him. But instead, the inexperienced guy finds himself in the way of a criminal organization that is engaged in racketeering in a camp for refugee emigrants, which belongs to Mustafa’s grandfather.
The main role in the film was played by a Puerto Rican athlete, stuntman and actor. Jose Manuel ("Witness"). The rest of the cast includes: Gulshan Grover ("Like the boss's nose was wiped"), Anna Sharma ("Gangster Blues") Hamid Sheikh (“Swamp”) and others.
The film is already going around film festivals, leaving a release for 2019. Anyway, the trailer makes you wait "The Man from Kathmandu".
