Previously we already wrote about the project of the Filipino director Pedrina Lopez ("Creatures", "Dark Room") entitled "Maria" (Maria), which was again positioned as a film with a strong female character in the central role.
There have been quite a lot of such films lately (the same Philippine "Test purchase" и "Combat readiness"), and the theme of revenge for relatives or the search for them is generally extremely popular among such action films. Just remember last year's thriller from China "Mrs. Kay" with Kara Hui, South Korean action film "Sister" or the upcoming Vietnam action "Fury" starring Veronica Ng.
"Maria" will tell the story of a former national security agent who worked undercover in the cartel, acting as a hitman. However, this is in the past, and now Maria is a decent housewife, a faithful wife and a loving mother. But the past cannot leave the former assassin alone and the main character’s family gets involved in the case.
Played the main role in the film Cristina Reyes (“Trophy”, “Gifted”), and they kept her company Jermaine De Leon (TV series "Lucifer") Meg Imperial ("Creatures") Jennifer Lee ("Breath of the Night"), as well as Sonny Sisa (“The Interrupted Path”), who also did the fight choreography in this thriller.
At home, "Maria" went into theaters 27 March 2019 year. We are waiting for the release in North America, where the film should be released in the summer.
The next project that we cannot help but mention comes from Malaysia. It seems they filmed their own version of the duology "Raid" Gareth Evans. Moreover, the action movie, which was called "Red Storm" (Red Storm), the creators are positioning it not as an official remake, but as an independent work. But obviously the director Michael Chua, which may be familiar to you from hand-to-hand action films "Dragon Fist" и "Special Forces", was inspired by "Raids", especially the second part.
The plot of the film tells the story of Hu Ping, a former soldier who abandoned the craft of a warrior and now works as an ordinary bodyguard. But everything turns upside down when the daughter of a wealthy tycoon, to whom Pin was assigned, is kidnapped. To get her back, Hu teams up with policeman Ah Bu, who is full of a desire to take revenge on the same scoundrels who killed his entire team and his wife a few months earlier.
Apart from the Michael Chua, who played one of the main roles, the following actors took part in the action film: Zhang Bo Nan (TV series "Ip Man") Henry Tya ("Dragon Fist") Genly Hee and others.

We’d like to finish today’s selection with a trailer for an action comedy film from Japan called "Fable" (The Fable), which is based on the popular comic book Minami Katsuhisa, which was released in 2014.
In the director's chair of the project is a former cameraman, and now a debutant Kan Eguchi. The main role is given to the star of Japanese cinema Junichi Okade, which, for example, can be seen in such samurai films as "Battle of Sekigahara" (2017) and "Falling Camellia" (2018)
The film is about a hired killer who has committed a crime against his employer and is now forced to hide in Osaka under a completely unfamiliar pseudonym. But here's the problem - local police mistake the main character for a government agent on a secret mission.
In addition to Okada, the film stars the following actors: Sota Fukushi ("Bleach"), Yuya Yagira ("Gintama 1-2"), Mizuki Yamamoto ("Friends in Crime") Fumino Kimura (“Spark”) and classics of Japanese cinema Koichi Sato ("The Last Sword of the Samurai") and Jiro Sato (Gokusen franchise)
The film will be released in its home country 21 June 2019 year. Well, for now we can only watch the trailer.

But, in fairness, I must say that the “Red storm” trailer is very good.
Well, for the sake of fairness, the plot of “The Raid” was not particularly original. He wasn't really there. A battle without honor or pity in a confined space is the plot of an entire subgenre. The same can be said about Die Hard or Assault on Precinct 13. I noticed something else. The Martial Arts genre came to the world from Asia and despite several waves of popularity, it seems that it has now returned to Asia again.
I'll have to check out Red Storm.
